You may have heard of anti-slip floor paint being mentioned elsewhere on our blog, or even used it without really knowing what it is. Anti-slip floor paint is an incredibly useful product that can be used on interiors and exteriors. Anti-Slip floor paint can be used on many surfaces too, wood, metal, concrete and asphalt.
Paint like this is perfect for busy environments such as walkways, ramps and kitchens. Anywhere you come in regular contact with slippery fluids and objects. It is important to ensure all employees, visitors and members of the public are kept as safe as possible in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Interior Anti-Slip Paint
If you are working on an interior project, you want to use a product like 502 HD Anti Slip Coating. It’s even available in a range of colours. The coating is solvent-free and a high-build epoxy resin system. Its design makes it perfect for use on concrete, metal and wood surfaces that need to be slip resistant.
So how does it work? It works by providing you with a heavily textured finish. It leaves a finish with a hard wearing aluminium oxide anti-slip aggregate. The aggregate is dispersed when you apply the paint for maximum grip. It means it can stand up to busy workrooms and high-traffic environments. It’s even strong enough to withstand forklift trucks and chemicals!
Exterior Anti-Slip Paint
For exterior surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, block paving and some wooden floors, you’re going to need a different product for the job. Axalta Highway Anti-Skid Traffic Paint comes in a variety of colours just like the interior paint. Now for the science bit – it’s a fast-drying anti-slip paint that is based on a specially modified chlorinated rubber system! Anti-Slip Traffic Paint also contains high-quality triclinic mineral aggregate. It’s coloured with chemical and weather resistant pigments to make it perfect for exteriors.
Another bonus, it can be used on interior surfaces too. This kind of paint is ideal for exterior surfaces such as car parks, walkways and cycle paths.

Good afternoon – I have a flat roof (20 m x 7 m = 140 sq m) with a GRP (fibre glass) covering which has been painted some time ago and I now wish to repaint – possibly with your 507 anti-slip traffic paint. However, I am not sure about:
1. Compatibility with GRP
2. Whether it has UV resistance
3. Whether it will bond to plate glass windows set into the roof
4. How flammable is it?

Hi Clive,
Thank you for your enquiry, our 507 Anti-Slip Traffic Paint has actually been discontinued and wouldn’t have been the product we would recommend for your application. Providing the existing fibreglass is in good condition and the coating you wish to apply isn’t required for any waterproofing purposes we would recommend the following primer and anti-slip coating. The primer is recommended for use both on glass and fibreglass so would suit both surfaces – one coat of this would suffice followed by 2 coats of the anti-slip coating which is available in a range of standard colours and is UV stable so won’t chalk or discolour in sunlight:

The primer is water based so wouldn’t cause risk of flammability during application, the anti-slip coating however is solvent based so while in the tin and wet, the solvent is present so could pose a risk of flammability.

is this product suitable for interior sports floor finishing ?
Hi Bijo,
Thank you very much for your question. An anti-slip coating would not normally be used for sports floor finishing, usually a smooth finish is used to allow for some ‘give’ underfoot.
Smartkote Safekote may be an option however our Technical Team have advised that an anti-slip coating would not generally be used.
