Hi Do you have an intumescent paint product for structural steel which is certified to achieve REI90 minutes fire protection, i.e. structural, insulation & integrity? Thanks
Unfortunately no.
Intumescent paints are not a suitable means of fire protection for the insulation criteria of REI.
The problem is that the insulation criteria requires a maximum temperature rise on the non-fire side of 140 degrees C and since thin film intumescent is designed to react to substrate temperatures of around 200 C then the system will fail, as the insulation maximum will be surpassed before the intumescent expands.
The steel will require to be protected by other means to achieve the insulation criteria.
