I’m painting my drive with tarmacoat which I’ve order two 5 litre cans from yourselves, awaiting delivery. My drive is concrete paving slabs which were previously painted with tarmacoat and it was two years ago since it was painted, however, I did not use a primer coat and followed the advice on the tarmacoat can to apply a watered down coat to act as a primer coat however over a short period of time the paint was peeling and lifting in places which I’m assuming was due to lack of adherence of the watered down coat. Can you suggest what primer I would need prior to applying the top coats of the tarmacoat to the drive? Hopefully my order hasn’t yet been dispatched and on your recommendation of type of primer this could be included in my delivery Many thanks Eamon.
Watering down the Tarmacoat is only for a primer coat on Asphalt.
For Concrete we would suggest testing if the substrate is porous or not prior to application.
For concrete surfaces which are porous and/or have loose particles or powdering, first prime with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS or Rust-Oleum 5220 Epoxyshield Sealer.
For non porous concrete prime with diluted Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde.
As the previous application has been applied incorrectly we would recommend removal of the paint back to bare concrete prior to application.
