Need Help?

Hi, looking at repainting very rusty checker plate bow on my narrowboat. Was going to wire brush/scrape as much of the rust off as poss and treat with fertan, then use rustoleum 769. Would you advise me to use an undercoat before topcoat, and if so what would you recommend for undercoat and topcoat. And do you think using the 769 a good idea or recommend something else. Thankyou. Trace

As a rule, we don't advocate the use of rust converters in lieu of correction preparation methods. So our advice would instead to be to prepare the chequer plate adequately using manual, mechanical means and prime with Rust-Oleum 9169 Epoxy Rust Primer, apply and intermediate coat of Rust-Oleum 9100 High Performance Epoxy and then finish with either Rust-Oleum 9200 Rust-O-Thane or Rust-Oleum 9600 Rust-O-Thane Polyurethane in the colour of your choice.

Slip resistance can be enhanced if required by the addition of Rust-Oleum Non-Skid Additive NS 200.
