A high build paint’s formula allows it to create a much thicker coating in just one or two coats. This means that you have superior surface protection in less time. In short, a high build paint has a higher solid content. 

High build paint is sought after as it offers incredibly good water resistance (it is thicker so more impermeable), has better crack-bridging properties (again, thicker), has better hiding properties (it is thicker), and is more resistant to heavy foot traffic (you guessed it, it’s thicker).
