We would always recommend a minimum of 2 coats of Rust-Oleum CombiColor whether applying directly to bare, prepared steel or previously painted surfaces. The 2 coats would provide the durability from the product but extra coats may be required to achieve the desired finish colour depending on the colour you are overcoating.
