Paint prevents the oxidisation process in various ways using varying technologies. In its simplest form iron rusts when it comes into contact with water or moisture in the air. The metal takes the oxygen from the water and creates iron oxide – which is rust. Paint seals and protects the surface of the metal, disabling water the opportunity to react with oxygen.
