ColourPicker Explained

In general we sort colours for products into 2 main groups - ‘Ready Mixed’ and ‘Tinted’.
Tinted colours will always be more expensive than Ready Mixed colours as they need to be produced at the time of order using a tinting machine dispensing colourant into a base*.
During busy periods, this means that tinted colours could take longer, for example – a ready mixed colour ordered on a 3-5 day delivery might arrive within 3 days, however a tinted colour might take the full 5 days to arrive.

To find Ready Mixed colours, search "ready mixed" or select the Ready Mixed 'colour chart'. To see Tinted colours select a colour chart such as RAL, BS, NCS, etc. or search for a colour/hue to see available or related options.

To ensure fair pricing, we split colours into ‘Price Bands’ to group together similar priced colours. If you wish to search for the cheapest tinted colours, always select Price Band 1.

Colour reproduction of the Products on the Site is limited by the technology used to deliver web pages and by the colour representation of Customer’s own monitor and computer set-up. We have made every effort to display as accurately as possible the colours of our Products but we cannot guarantee that the colour shown on Customer’s monitor’s display will accurately reflect the colour of the Product on delivery. We recommend that Customer first purchases the smallest Product available or access an industry standard colour chart in person (and not digitally) to ensure that the colour is acceptable for its purposes.

Preparation

Cleanliness:
- Remove oil, grease and other contaminants by suitable detergent cleaning
- Remove salts, detergents and other contaminants by high pressure fresh water cleaning
New build:
- Abrasive blasting to min. Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1) / SP 10 (SSPC)
- Remove dust, blast media and loose materials
- All damage of shopprimer and contamination from storage and fabrication should be thoroughly mechanically/chemically cleaned prior to final painting
Maintenance and Repair:
- Remove dust, blast media and loose materials
- Feather edges to sound surrounding coating
- Flash rust degree of maximum FR M (ISO 8501-4)
- Minor areas may be hand or power tool cleaned instead of abrasive blasting
- Spot abrasive blasting to min. PSa 2 (ISO 8501-2) / SP 6 (SSPC)
- Water jetting to min. Wa 2 (ISO 8501-4)
Roughness - Surface profile Medium (S) (ISO 8503-2)

Application

Mixing ratio - Base 55759 : Curing Agent 97050 (9.1 : 0.9 by volume). Stir well before use
Thinner/Cleaner: Hempel's Thinner 08080
Pot life: 2 hours @ 20°C
Apply with brush or airless spray (Nozzle pressure: 200-250 bar [2900 psi] Nozzle orifice: 0.015-0.021")
Dry film thickness: 50 - 160 micron (100 recommended)
Wet film thickness: 75 - 250 micron (150 recommended)
Coverage: 4.1m²/L - 13m²/L (6.5m²/L recommended)
To avoid condensation, apply on a clean and dry surface with a temperature that is at least 3°C above the dew point
Surface temperature must be above -10°C during application and curing
Beware of ice on the surface at low temperatures
The film formation may be adversely affected by light rain, high humidity and/or condensation during application and the following interval after application: “8 hours, 20°C”
Relative Humidity:
- Relative humidity must be below 85% during curing
- Relative humidity must be below 85% during application
Touch dry in 60 minutes @ 20°C, hard dry in 120 minutes @ 20°C

Spray data are indicative and subject to adjustment. Pressure is for a material temperature of 20°C.

For best performance, avoid excessive film thickness. Product may be specified in another film thickness than indicated depending on purpose and area of use. This will alter spreading rate, drying and curing time and overcoating interval.

To obtain the drying time stated, it is important to maintain sufficient ventilation during application, drying and curing. Condensation on the freshly applied coating should be avoided.
