Jotun Hardtop Clear is a two component chemically curing aliphatic acrylic polyurethane coating. It has a high gloss finish with excellent gloss retention.
It is typically used as a clear coat in a polyurethane system, or on epoxy/epoxy mastic systems for topsides, decks, superstructures on ships, or for other industrial uses.

Film Thickness Per Coat
Typical recommended specification range
- Dry Film Thickness: 10 - 20 μm
- Wet Film Thickness: 24 - 45 μm
- Theoretical Spreading Rate: 46 - 23 m²/L
Can be applied up to 75 µm wet film thickness on horizontal areas.
Can be applied up to 25% higher than maximum specified film thickness without loss of technical properties.
For best possible UV protection of the substrate the dry film thickness should be built up to 30-50µm, 2-3 coats.
Surface Preparation
To secure lasting adhesion to the subsequent product all surfaces shall be clean, dry and free from any contamination.
Coated Surfaces:
- Clean, dry and undamaged compatible coating is required

Application
Application Methods
The product can be applied by:
- Spray: Use air spray or airless spray
- Brush: Recommended for stripe coating and small areas. Care must be taken to achieve the specified dry film thickness
- Roller: Use 2mm nap foam rollers or 5mm nap natural hair rollers

Drying and curing times are determined under controlled temperatures and relative humidity below 85 %, and at average of the DFT range for the product.
Surface (touch) dry: The state of drying when slight pressure with a finger does not leave an imprint or reveal tackiness.
Walk-on-dry: Minimum time before the coating can tolerate normal foot traffic without permanent marks, imprints or other physical damage.
Dry to over coat, minimum: The recommended shortest time before the next coat can be applied.
Dried/cured for service: Minimum time before the coating can be permanently exposed to the intended environment/medium.
Induction Time & Pot Life
- Induction time @23°C: 10 mins
- Pot life @23°C: 3 hours
Heat Resistance
Dry, atmospheric:
- Continuous: 120°C
- Peak: 140°C
Peak temperature duration max. 1 hour.
The temperatures listed relate to retention of protective properties. Aesthetic properties may suffer at these temperatures.
Product Compatibility
