Cromar Acrypol Quartzdek has been developed from proven technology used extensively in Europe during the past 25 years for the renovation of balconies and terraces. These areas are often considered to be our ‘private retreats’ where sunshine and relaxation can be enjoyed. However, the constantly changing climate together with mechanical wear and tear can soon turn our pleasure into a nightmare.

Moisture formed as a result of rain, snow or frost can penetrate the substrate of the floor through cracks in the surface or poorly formed joints and consequently through adjacent walls and ceilings of balconies below.

The effects of this process can be quite devastating with the damage which dampness can cause internally not to mention the structural deterioration caused by corrosion of steel reinforced bars and balustrade

Application of Quazrtzdek to balconies and terraces will not only prevent damage and deterioration as described above but will provide an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Preparation & Mixing

It is necessary to prepare all critical spots. Consult application documents provided by Acrypol Products. For all application on waterproofing membranes (TechSeal) re-apply QuartzDek following the relevant reapplication guidelines.

If necessary, dilute with up to 10% Solvent for viscosity adjustment. Note: On non-porous substrates, do not dilute the first coat. Stir gently before use. Use low-speed stirring equipment to minimize air bubbles.

Application

Apply by roller, brush or airless spraying equipment. Spray application of clear product is not recommended due to the risc of microbubbling. Although not strictly necessary, it is highly recommended use all the contents. If not, ensure total sealing of the remainder. Note: Some roller materials are damaged by the solvent. If in doubt, is recommended to test before use.

For airless spraying equipment, viscosity is likely to need adjustment. Excess pressure, along with high temperature and humidity, may give rise to micro bubbles that makes the surface to look hazy.

For pigmented applications, mix the pigment paste with QuartzDek by means of a low speed stirrer and wait some minutes to allow bubbles to disappear. Apply the pigmented colour normally. It is recommended to use all the pigmented mixture. Apply, as a general rule, to 200-500 g/m².

Tool Cleaning

Liquid QuartzDek can be cleaned with Solvent, acetone and alcohols. Once hardened, it cannot be dissolved.

Cleaning

It may be necessary to reapply QuartzDek layers if they are worn out due to traffic, weather, corrosion, etc.

For stain removal, a surface treatment with solvent or isopropyl alcohol may be attempted. Strong acids are totally inadequate. Some solvents may damage the membrane. If this happens, the affected area has to be cut and repaired with a new QuartzDek application.
