Mary-Anne on 2024-07-10 18:24:20 | Question:
How is this applied? Is it a matter of just brushing on. Id like to either paint directly over this or wall paper and then paint. Are either/ both possible? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied by either brush, trowel or spray, and requires part water to be mixed mechanically using a forced action mixer or clean bucket, using a power drill and plaster paddle stirrer (max 500 rpm). Pour the required amount of mix ratio water into a mixing bucket, add the Sika Damp Proof Slurry slowly, under continual mixing, until achieivng a uniform lump free consistency (approx 3mins). Slurry application is then applied in even layers by a flat fibre brush on vertical surfaces, or a rubber squeegee or brush for horizontal surfaces. A tooth trowel should be applied for Mortar application. Wet Spray Equipment can also be used for a first coat, before a smooth second coat applied by either brush or trowel. For over painting, a test area is required to check compatibility and adhesion. Full preparation and application information can be found in the technical datasheet.

Matthew on 2023-09-17 09:35:13 | Question:
Hi, Similar to question below I need to stop water ingress though a sub surface stone wall at rear of a property. I aim to dig out, repair the stone with lime mortar as needed (so the stone wall can breath internally) - but wanted to know if this product could then be used on the exterior surface to stop water penetration below ground, or if a cement render would be needed over the stone wall first? I will backfill with drainage stone protected by a membrane but the area is quite damp! |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The slurry is certified for below ground works, it will still allow the wall to breathe and can be used in external environments. The slurry should always be applied to the base substrate if possible, in general, it can be applied to a stone surface however certain natural stones can cause poor adhesion so a small test is always worthwhile. Mortar joints should be sound and flush with the stone and the stone surface as even as possible, a very irregular surface would need addressing first. When back filling care should be taken not to damage the slurry surface.
Ed on 2023-06-01 09:11:45 | Question:
Can you apply this to both the exterior and interior of a block wall for extra protection? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This can be used to water proof interior or exterior concrete, renders, brickwork and blockwork structures.
jez thorpe on 2021-09-06 13:50:34 | Question:
Once 2 coats of Skia Slurry are applied to a basement wall, how would you finish? Is it suitable to be painted over or would you need to frame out and plasterboard the wall? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
After application plaster board and or timber battens can be bonded to the wall, or finishing plaster applied. It is not recommended to use gypsum based plasters.
Luke Thomas on 2021-04-22 08:15:46 | Question:
Hi, can this be used externally on a stone wall below ground level? Can a layer of blackjack be used over as an extra measure? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you directly for more information to assist you further.
Che Watson on 2019-11-28 15:47:01 | Question:
Would this be suitable for a cellar with sandstone walls? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
As long as the walls are of sufficient strength then this should be ok. At the time of writing the data sheet states; SUBSTRATE QUALITY / PRE-TREATMENT The substrate must be structurally sound and free of all traces of contaminants, loose and friable particles, cement laitance, oils and grease etc. The concrete “pull off” (tensile adhesive) strength must be > 1.0 N/mm2.
SR Suner on 2018-07-28 03:54:39 | Question:
Looking to identify the particular damp proofing powder by Sika that gave a light reddish brown hue following application: What would it be called, could you let me know the product name? Many thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
To our knowledge Sika have nothing in their range which is reddish brown and a damp proof slurry. They have;
The only other thing that may have been used would be a red/brown sharp sand with Portland cement mixed with Sika 1 Waterproofer Liquid Admixture that will be reddish brown but that will be site batched and not a pre-bagged product.
Micheal on 2018-04-04 12:31:24 | Question:
Is it strong enough to be used on garden shed floor that has no dpm to stop damp and take weight of tractor lawnmower? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Although Sika Damp-proofing Slurry can be used on the shed floor to stop damp rising through the slab, we would recommend a protective screed on top, as the Sika Damp-proofing Slurry is a thin coating (2-4mm) that could be damaged if heavy machinery (lawnmowers, etc) are thrown on top. For the protective screed we would recommend SikaScreed HardTop 60 is used at 8mm thickness.
robin wright building & joinery services on 2016-10-10 10:46:11 | Question:

Yes, as long as it is non-gypsum based.
