Preparation and Priming

Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free of any contaminants that could impair good adhesion. Ensure good drying conditions prevail throughout the application and cure of the product. Good adhesion is obtained on all sound surfaces with adequate roughness or porosity, e.g. slate, burnt clay and concrete tiles, bituminous roofing felt, asbestos cement, concrete and cement render. Cracked roofing or roofs with expansion joints or other structural joints prone to movement must be treated with a reinforcing scrim, using the procedure described below. The application of a scrim will increase the strength and wearing properties of the roofing membrane in all situations.

Surface Pre-Treatment

Greasy or oily contamination: Degrease and thoroughly dry; prime as required.

Concrete etc. with water repellent treatment, blown asphalt or cold bitumen: Prime with Resuseal WB Clear and check to ensure that the primer wets out on the surface.

Asbestos-cement, or concrete etc. with powdery surface: Prime with RS Cemprime or Resuprime W.B.

As above, but heavily powdered, loose or flaking surface: Brush thoroughly with stiff wire brush. Prime with RS Cemprime or Resuprime W.B.

Bare iron or steel: De-rust fully, apply Resuprime ZP anti-corrosive primer and allow to cure before applying membrane.

Galvanised iron: Degrease if new. Apply a suitable etch or emulsion-based anti-corrosive primer.

Wood: Apply suitable wood primer and leave to dry as recommended by manufacturer before applying membrane with reinforcing scrim.

Plastics: Whether expanded, foamed or in sheet form, it may provide insufficient key and should be checked with a small scale trial to assess adhesion.

Application: Premix the RSL AquArmor AC to a uniform consistency, to re-disperse any separation, using a slow speed drill and paddle mixer. Apply a uniform heavy-brushed or rolled coat of RSL AquArmor AC liquid membrane to the surface. Immediately bed the scrim into the wet coat, following the contour of the surface, taking care not to push the membrane into gaps. Leave for the recommended drying period and finish with one sprayed coat or two brushed or rolled coats.

The interval between brushed coats must allow good drying but should not exceed three days.
