    Description

PPG SigmaShield 880 (also known as Amerlock 880), a two-component, high-build, polyamine adduct-cured epoxy coating primarily designed for use in offshore splash zone maintenance, such as pipelines, jetties, piling, etc. SigmaShield 880 has outstanding sea water resistance, requiring just a single coat that continues to cure when immersed in water.

Used by Zhenhua Heavy Industries, Co., Ltd. (ZpmC) in Nantong, China, the world’s largest heavy-duty equipment manufacturer with 17 cross-owned steel workshops that manufacture conventional port machinery products, large steel bridges, gantry cranes, marine floating cranes, and ship fittings, yielding 15,000 tons of steel per month. ZPMC also manufactured foundation pipes for offshore wind turbines for the Rudong intertidal I development Zone (Ri1dZ). Located in the East China Sea, the Rudong wind farm consists of 58 wind turbines with the capacity of 150 megawatts of power.

Also used by The Pertamina (PERSERO) Processing Unit RU IV in Cilacap, Indonesia, an oil refinery with a production capacity of 348,000 barrels per day. Pertamina RU IV processes raw crude oil from the Middle East while simultaneously extracting lube oil and asphalt. It supplies between 34% and 60% of Indonesia’s national fuel needs.

Datang Changshan Power Plant used SigmaShield 880 on its large steel circulating water pipes, requiring protection from the effects of prolonged flowing water exposure (corrosion, and abrasion). Datang specializes in the development, investment, construction, operation and management of power energy for the state. Datang comprises six subsidiaries and eight branch companies, which operate the largest thermal power plant in China, the largest wind farm in the world, and the second largest hydropower project in China.

    Note:

Epoxy coatings will characteristically chalk and fade upon exposure to sunlight. Note that product tinted to customer colours cannot be used as primer or intermediate layer in a multicoat system, only use factory grind batches. Tinted colours can be used only as last layer in a multicoat system.

    Surface Preparation

    Recommended Substrate Conditions and Temperatures

Existing pipelines may have to be cleaned first by scraper pigs and solvents

    • Coating performance will depend upon the surface preparation degree
    • Steel; blast cleaned to ISO-Sa2 or ISO-Sa2½
    • Blasting profile of 40 – 80 µm (1.6 – 3.1 mils) is recommended
    • Steel; hand/power tool clean in accordance with St3 or SSPC-SP3 for new building and St2 or SSPC-SP2 for maintenance, UHPWH in accordance with WJ2L/3l (SSPC-VIS-4)
    • Compatible previous coat must be dry and free from any contamination

    Substrate Temperature & Application Conditions

    • Substrate temperature during application and curing should be at least 3°C (5°F) above dew point

    Application

    Instructions for Use

    Notes:

    • For repair of jetties, piling etc. between tides, SIGMASHIELD 880 can be immersed within 30 minutes. Whitening can be happened for dark colour, but will not affect anti-corrosive performances.
    • The curing time is related to the DFT of the paint and ventilation of the drying condition. High DFT and poor ventilation will slow curing
    • Adequate ventilation must be maintained during application and curing (please refer to information sheets information sheet 1433 and information sheet 1434

    Safety Precautions

    • This is a solvent-borne paint and care should be taken to avoid inhalation of spray mist or vapour, as well as contact between the wet paint and exposed skin or eyes
