Wethertex X71 Polymer Levelling Base Coat - Top-Of-The-Line Waterproofing
Boasts excellent workability and extended finishing time, making it the number one choice for multiple substrates. Whether you're working in low temperatures or applying by hand or spray, this versatile base coat is designed to meet your needs.
Application and Preparation
Before application, ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from materials that may impair adhesion. Avoid applying the base coat to shiny surfaces and ensure scaffolding is independently tied. Address any structural faults that could lead to moisture penetration and mask around the areas where the material is to be applied. Remove masking tape before the material dries out. Include beads and expansion joints as required by the substrate and British Standards.
Mixing Instructions
Mix the X71 Polymer Levelling Base Coat with clean water at approximately 4.5 litres per 25kg bag (for use as a levelling coat; approx. 7 litres per 25kg bag for use as a slurry coat). Use a suitable paddle or pan mixer, mix for 2 minutes, let it stand for 2 minutes, and then re-mix. This process activates the additives, ensuring optimal performance.
Application Guidelines
Avoid rendering below the DPC or within 150mm of ground level to prevent dampness and discolouration. Apply the X71 in a one-coat, two-pass operation to a thickness of 10-15mm. For a 10mm flat finish, apply the first pass to the primed substrate using a stainless steel trowel or spray pump. Include fibre-reinforcing mesh in the first pass, overlapping 100mm at the joints. Apply the second pass wet on wet, level it flat, and finish with a wet sponge float after 2-8 hours. For a 15mm finish, apply similarly but with an additional layer thickness.
Important Considerations
Do not apply the product if frost is forecast or in excessively wet conditions, if relative humidity is above 95%, or in temperatures below +3°C or above +25°C. Avoid direct sunlight on the elevation, and do not apply to hot substrates (above 30°C). Protect the application from heavy rain, direct sun, or wind in the first 24 hours. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in polymer film damage, wash off, discolouration, and potential failure.

Questions
Question about the product
Nigel Rose on 2023-05-12 07:59:38 | Question:
Hi, what primer do you recommend applying for this product please? Also can this be applied to a painted wall ( paint has good adhesion and is not flaking) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
X71 is a levelling basecoat. We would advise that if this is being applied over paint as a basecoat, that reinforcing mesh is applied into the basecoat and thin fixed with insulation fixing back to the substrate. | |
