- Please note that colours chosen in this product will be produced as an `undercoat shade` ready for overcoating with Thermoguard Wallcoat Smoke & Flame Retardant Topcoat in the same colour, and as such an exact colour match should not be expected. The same colour should be chosen in both basecoat and topcoat for best results.
Please note: Colours are sold in the nearest tin size but actual paint volume per tin may vary up to 10% depending on colour.

Intended Use – Protection and Decoration of Buildings
Thermoguard Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat is an intumescent basecoat paint which is the first part of a system for upgrading potentially dangerous ‘multi-layer’ previously painted walls & ceilings. It controls surface spread of flame and fire propagation providing total smoke control, flaming droplets and particulates to EN Class B s1 d0.
Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat is the compatible topcoat, water-borne specialist finish that allows owners and operators of buildings to fulfil their Duty of Care for Fire Safety without having to compromise aesthetics. The system can be applied to painted plaster, Artex, plasterboard, brick and concrete.
To Specify, Simply State
To achieve BS EN Class B s1, d0, inspect and prepare in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and apply -
- 1 coat of Thermoguard Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat
- 1 coat* of Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat in Matt or Eggshell Finish
*Apply 2 coats of Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat in Matt or Eggshell Finish in external, damp or high wear areas. 2 coats may also be required for strong/dark colours - Thermoguard Wallcoat Insulating Basecoat will be provided in a suitable undercoat shade to aid topcoat opacity unless instructed otherwise.

Thermoguard issue a Fire Certificate upon request for each correctly specified project for Insurance, Fire and Building Authority and Client Records against proof of purchase. Certified Fire protection is guaranteed if all instructions are followed on suitable surfaces.
Flamespread & Smoke Protection
When exposed to fire, Thermoguard Wallcoat expands to create a fire protective barrier, insulating surfaces from heat and oxygen and preventing combustion. Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat (Matt & Eggshell) actively suppresses smoke, particles and flaming droplets.
Finish, Colours and Availability
- Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat is available in Matt or Eggshell finish in White, BS 4800, BS 381C, RAL and NCS colours (not metallic or fluorescent shades)
- Wallcoat basecoat is available in White and BS 4800, BS 381C, RAL and NCS undercoat shades
- Wallcoat and Thermoguard Wallcoat SFR Topcoat are sold in 25m², 50m² and 100m² cans
Preparation and Application
All surfaces must be clean and dry. Remove all possible surface contaminates such as grease, smoke residues, silicates etc. Seal water-stain risks with stain blocking sealer suitable to overcoat with waterbased acrylic paints. Abrade hard or smooth surfaces with wetted 120 grit wet-or-dry abrasive or dust extracting abrader. Rinse off slurry while still damp. When dry, remove any loose or suspect material back to firm edge. Fill and repair any damage to the substrate using a good quality remedial filler.
Apply by brush or roller using woven fabric roller sleeves and synthetic bristle brushes.
Spray;
Pressure Pot & Gun conventional unit with small compressor: Ensure all traces of solvent flushed out Thin 5 > 10% with water to spray viscosity. Adjust fluid flow & air flow as normal for acrylic emulsion paint OR Airless Graco 1500, 3500 or equivalent. 3/8” line, 30 mesh filter on machine, no filter in gun. 521,523, 621 or 623 tip Ensure coverage is applied as per can i.e., 25 sqm can covers 25 sqm
During application and drying, ensure a minimum temperature of 8°C and a maximum temperature of 30°C. Maximum relative humidity 75% and surface temperature at least 3°C above dew point and free from condensation.
Environmental, Health & Safety
Return as much unused material to its original container as possible. Wash brushes rollers and guns with clean waters immediately following use.
Low Voc. Limit for this product (cat A/i) is 140 g/l. This product contains just 16 g/lv
Composition: Catalytic powder, expansion agent, insulating char former, char hardeners & fibres
Binder: Fire protection adhesive grade rapid reaction acrylic resin. Water based
Please refer to the relevant Safety Data Sheet for full details of this product. Apply all products in accordance with BS 6150:2019- Code of practice for painting of buildings. Do not store this product in cold temperatures below 5°C or above 30°C.
