Maz on 2024-10-09 09:05:55 | Question:
The advice is to use Rustoleum Mathys Elastofill to bridge cracks wider than 2mm before using Rustoelum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres but the data sheet for the Elastofill states it is for inside use only and does not mention bitumen. Can you please clear this up. Can i use Elastofill outside to bridge cracks that are wider than 2mm on a bitumen roof? If not, could i use the Mathys repair kit? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Elastofill can only be applied to internal substrates, so wouldn't be suitable for this type of application to an external roof. However, if choosing to use Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres, this can be applied to bituminous roofs that are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet. The caveat to this however is 2mm gaps seem quite wide and could indicate an aged roof that's not in good condition. Please e-mail [email protected] with images of the current condition of the roof to allow us to look into your enquiry further.
Matthew on 2024-10-03 17:04:04 | Question:
Hi can this product be used on a shed roof which has been felted ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the bare felt roof is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, you could consider this product.
Neil on 2024-02-08 08:56:13 | Question:
Is this product suitable to seal asbestos/cement guttering? The joints are leaking. Attempts have been made to seal the joints with bitumen previously. Does the bitumen need cleaning off first? 18m long x 300mm wide |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the bitumen products are removed prior to application, the asbestos guttering is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you could consider Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat. This product would allow for easier application for this type of requirement as opposed to the Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres.
Ed on 2023-07-21 16:31:18 | Question:
I see previous comment about a fish pond, but I have a PVC pond shell which I want to extend up a little and wanted to use this to bridge between the PVC shell and a coated aluminium trim set into a brickwork perimeter above. Would this be suitable or is there another product to recommend? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately we do not have a product we can recommend for this application.
Alf on 2022-03-24 18:38:42 | Question:
Can this be used on the bottom of a fiberglass sailing dinghy. Existing fiberglass has some crazing and hairline cracks appearing. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no, we do not have a product to recommend for repairing the fibreglass hull.
Ash on 2020-12-28 19:08:54 | Question:
Can I use this for my fish pond. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, this product is not suitable for application to a pond. Assuming the pond is concrete, clean, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber. The pond should not be refilled until completely dry, approximately 14 days.
Robert Taylor on 2020-11-06 11:43:00 | Question:
I have replaced my wooden gutters with similar size plastic gutters some years ago. The joints on these gutters have started to leak and try as I might I can’t seem to stop the leaks. Would this product be suitable to stop them leaking. Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the gutters are PVC, clean, dry, sound and no cracks are larger than 2mm we can recommend Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres for this application.
John nicholson on 2020-05-24 09:07:40 | Question:
How long does this product last once applied on a GRP flat roof? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would suggest 5 to 10 years, but this is heavily dependant upon a high level of surface preparation and correct application as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet. This can be found in the attachment tab on the product page.
Mrs. Talbot on 2020-01-26 15:09:35 | Question:
Would your product seal a crack in lead flashing.?? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Providing the surface is clean, Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres can bridge cracks up to 2mm wide and is suitable for lead.
Hari Ma on 2020-01-13 13:22:24 | Question:
Hi, could I use this to paint over and seal some small cracks in cement on the top of a chimney stack? thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Bare concrete/cement would need priming first with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS prior to application of Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres. If you only have a few cracks to treat then Rust-Oleum Mathys Elastofill may be suitable instead.
Lester Cook on 2019-06-19 18:05:27 | Question:
Is Fillcoat Fibres waterproofer suitable for galvanised steel guttering |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes – so long as the galvanised steel is in good condition structurally, has no rust, has been thoroughly degreased and will be dry and clean at point of paint application. We would also suggest using Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat first as a kind of primer coat to aid adhesion.
Daniel on 2019-06-11 20:28:07 | Question:
Can you use this on cracks on a fibreglass roof? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes. | |
Ian Smith on 2019-04-09 20:28:44 | Question:
For inside of iron gutter at what rate per m2 should it be applied 1L or 1.5L /m2? or other? PS referring to Rust-oleum mathys fillcoat. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
For waterproofing a gutter we would recommend the application of Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres over any joints and cracks before applying a coat of Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat over the whole gutter area. To provide a more durable, long lasting finish we'd recommend Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat be applied at 1m²/litre.
R. Gale-Brown on 2019-03-18 07:55:11 | Question:
Could you please advise on the coverage of the rustoleum fillcoat fibres tin Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
1.5 litre per m². | |
James Johnston on 2016-09-16 20:09:03 | Question: Dear Sir. can you confirm a product that can waterproof an asbestos garage roof and how is it applied . |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat and Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres can be used on asbestos but must first be primed with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS. Surfaces should be cleaned and a fungicidal solution to treat and wash the roof with like Rust-Oleum Mathys AMW Fungicidal Wash is always good practice. Be sure to follow government and local authority guidelines - further information on this can be provided by our Technical Department upon request.
