Blackfriar Exterior Varnish UV77 Enhances and protects all wood and external joinery. It provides protection to all types of wood by resisting UV light to give your wood superior durability when applied over Blackfriar UV Wood Primer. It waterproofs as well as adding an attractive finish.
Preparation
Timber must be clean, dry and smooth. It must be free from any surface contamination such as oils, grease, loose or flaking varnish and denatured timber that may affect the performance of the Blackfriar Exterior Varnish. Remove excess resin from knots and clean with methylated spirit. Due to its orange/brown colour Blackfriar Patent Knotting should not be used under the Blackfriar Exterior Varnish.
Oily woods, such as teak or iroko, should be thoroughly cleaned with a cloth impregnated with white spirit to remove natural oils. Non-ferrous nails are recommended for fixing beading etc. Remove old varnish completely with Blackfriar Professional Paint and Varnish Remover, and then treat as new timber: Any French Polishes must also be completely removed.
Application
Apply 2 coats of Blackfriar UV Wood Primer by brush. Followed by 2 coats of Blackfriar Exterior Varnish for maximum durability. Work Blackfriar Exterior Wood Varnish into all areas of detail and joints. Allow to dry fully between coats. Do not apply the system to damp wood as this with limit penetration and affect durability.
Limitations
As with all exterior grade varnishes, inspect the coating regularly and maintain immediately if any sign of breakdown occurs. A maintenance coat is recommended at least annually, may be more frequent on areas subject to high UV levels.
Clean Up
Remove as much product as possible from application equipment before washing with white spirits. Do not empty product into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

Questions
Question about the product
Rolph on 2015-09-16 14:02:27 | Question:
having just purchased softwood treated entrance gates (farm gates) can we apply your super yacht varnish to these newly installed treated tantalised gates. We have 3 7ft gates plus 1entrance gate 3ft 6 inch plus a 3ft 6inch dummy, also the relevant posts 3 8inch and 2 6inch posts
Would be grateful for advice on the quantity and price. Thankyou
|
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, you can apply Blackfriar Super Yacht Varnish to exterior softwood as long as the tanalising treatment is completely dry. You must apply a minimum of 3 coats and you would require approximately 5 litres for the area you have. | |
