Coo-Var Yacht & Seaplane Varnish
Coo-Var Yacht & Seaplane Varnish is a high-performance, UV-resistant yacht and seaplane varnish that delivers a full gloss finish, specifically designed to protect and enhance the natural beauty of wooden surfaces. It provides exceptional durability in both interior and exterior applications, withstanding exposure to sunlight, saltwater, and adverse weather conditions. Ideal for use on yacht woodwork, doors, and various exterior wooden structures, this varnish ensures long-lasting protection and aesthetic appeal.
Application Areas
This varnish is ideal for marine environments and can be applied to a variety of wooden surfaces, such as yacht hulls, decks, fascia boards, and wooden doors. It is suitable for both new wood and previously painted or varnished surfaces that require re-coating. The product is easy to apply by brush or roller, ensuring smooth coverage and a high-quality finish.
How to Apply
- Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or contaminants before application.
- Use a suitable primer or undercoat where necessary for best results on bare wood.
- Apply the varnish with a brush or roller, ensuring an even coat is applied.
- For optimal results, apply multiple coats, allowing sufficient drying time between applications.
- Do not apply in conditions of high humidity or low temperatures to avoid extended drying times.
Restrictions and Limitations
This product should not be applied to metals, plastics, or other non-porous surfaces. Avoid using the varnish on areas exposed to high foot traffic without adequate drying time. Additionally, the varnish is flammable, and care should be taken to avoid any open flames or sparks during application. It should not be applied in confined, unventilated areas.
Complementary Products
For a complete marine finish, consider pairing this varnish with a compatible wood primer or undercoat, also available in the same range. For areas subject to heavy wear, additional protective coatings may be recommended.

Questions
Question about the product
Melanie Smith on 2021-02-27 12:43:33 | Question:
Can I use this on top of water based outdoor paint on an outside bar to prevent damage from scratches, glasses, cans etc. Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Yacht & Seaplane Varnish should be applied directly to bare timber only or a timber surface previously coated with the same varnish. We can recommend Rust-Oleum 4900 Polycoat 2K as a suitable protective, clear coating that can be applied over existing paint finishes.
Shirley Archibald on 2018-04-18 15:50:18 | Question:
How do you clean brushes after using your varnish, as the instructions on tin do not specify this. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The product can be thinned and equipment cleaned with Teamac Thinner 14.
