Safewood Mattwood Anti-Viral Varnish is a decorative and protective matt finish applied over Safewood systems and Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat. For the Satin version see Satinwood Anti-Viral Varnish.

Safewood Mattwood is an effective anti-viral coating with the added benefit that it can be used over Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat to achieve Class B s2 d0 over existing multiple layers of abraded previously varnished wood and wood derivatives.

Unless protected with a treatment to kill enveloped Coronaviruses, flu and bacteria, hand contact with doors, frames, window sills and other wood create a potential infection risk.

Coronaviruses and bacteria remain contagious for weeks on hard surfaces like painted, varnished or stained wood. Safewood Mattwood destroys the casing on “enveloped” viruses leading to rapid disintegration, disrupts the breeding and causes disintegration of bacteria.

Application

Fire Protection and Decoration For Internal Wood

• To achieve Class B s2 d0:
  
  • 1 coat 2K Fire Varnish Basecoat
  • 1 or 2 coats of Safewood Mattwood*

*For virus and bacteria protection apply 2 coats

For Microbial Protection Only

• 2 coats of Safewood Mattwood

Preparation & Application

• Surfaces should be sound and firmly adhering, clean, dry and free of surface contamination
• Remove loose, flaking or suspect paint films.
• Abrade old smooth or hard coatings with 120 grit for a key
• Clean to remove dirt, grease and any wax
• For paint colours treat knots with shellac-free sealer by brush, dense short-pile “glossing” roller or spray
• Use a woven short pile roller sleeve or synthetic brush at rate stated on can
• Maintain wet edge during application
• Clean equipment with white spirit

Application Conditions

• Do not apply in temperatures under 5°C or above 30°C
• Conditions Maximum relative Humidity below 75%
• Wood should be fully dry
• Surface should be at least 3°C above the dew point

Drying Times

• In normal conditions product will be touch dry in 6 hours and recoatable in 12 hours

How It Works

Fire Varnish Basecoat expands in a fire, creating a fire protective barrier, insulating wood materials from flames, heat and oxygen to prevent  flamespread & fire penetration.

Safewood Mattwood controls toxic smoke and flaming particles.

• BS EN Class B replaces Class 0
• Today both Class 0 and Class B comply for escape routes, but Class 0 is being phased out
• New BS EN also protects from toxic smoke – safe ones are s1 and s2
• New BS EN also protects from flaming droplets – safest d0
• New compliant standards for corridors, stairs, lobbies are BS EN Class B s1 d0 and Class B s2 d0
