Description

Rust-Oleum 569/580 QD Metal Primer

The 569 Quick Drying Metal Primer is a versatile single pack primer designed for bare and lightly rusted metal surfaces. It offers excellent flow, quick drying times, and the ability to be recoated within 2 hours, making it ideal for fast-paced industrial environments.

Features and Benefits

  • Quick Drying: Dries to handle in 2 hours and can be recoated after just 2 hours, allowing for rapid project turnaround.
  • Durable Protection: Provides a robust anti-corrosion system, significantly extending the life expectancy of topcoats like Alkythane.
  • Tintable: Can be tinted in virtually any colour, providing flexibility to match existing colour schemes.
  • Excellent Coverage: Offers practical coverage of 12.8 m²/l, depending on the substrate's porosity and roughness.
  • Certified Use: Recommended for industrial and professional use, ensuring high standards of performance and safety.
  • Long Shelf Life: Boasts a minimum shelf life of 5 years from the production date when stored correctly.

Application Instructions

Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of contaminants. For optimal results, remove rust, scale, and old paint by abrasive blasting or wire brushing. Stir thoroughly before use. Apply using a brush, roller, or airless spray. For best results, use in temperatures between 5°C and 35°C and a humidity level below 85%.

Restrictions and Limitations

  • Do not apply on wet surfaces or in high humidity conditions above 85%.
  • Avoid using in confined spaces without adequate ventilation.
  • Not recommended for use on non-metallic surfaces.

Additional Recommendations

For enhanced protection in heavy industrial environments, consider a two-coat system with Rust-Oleum 9100. For light industrial use, pair with Primer 1060/1080 and a final coat of Alkythane 7500.

questions Nev on 2024-08-21 21:29:19
Question:

Can this primer be used on aluminium? I have a steel and aluminium horsebox I wish to paint Thanks Nev

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

No, this product isn't suitable for aluminium, it can be applied to bare or lightly rusted metal surfaces.

Assuming the steel is bare, clean, dry, sound and pepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, you could apply this Primer to these areas.

For the aluminium, you could consider Rust-Oleum 3202 Galvinoleum Primer to prime this area.

For a decorative finish, Rust-Oleum 7500 Alkythane could then be applied, this is an anti-corrosive finish, available in your choice of 4400+ RL, BS & NCS Colours to a Gloss or Satin finish, suitable for areas that not trafficked by foot traffic.

questions Mike Bell on 2024-04-18 19:02:57
Question:

This is for a mild steel water tank which I intend covering with a bitumen type paint. Is this okay and do you have such a thing as bitumen type paint? Mike bell

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Normally for application of a bitumen paint to a clean ,dry, sound and prepared steel water tank no primer is required.

If you need a suitable bitumen paint for this application you could consider Teamac Metalastic Black Bituminous.
