Teamac Metaclor Underwater Primer
The product is a single-pack, modified chlorinated rubber primer specifically designed to offer durable and versatile protection for steel, wood, and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) surfaces. Its unique formulation includes Zinc Phosphate, which provides superior protection against corrosion, making it ideal for use in marine environments where long-lasting durability is essential.
Applications
This primer is highly versatile and can be applied as an underwater primer on prepared steel surfaces or used as a sealer coat over most conventional systems. It is particularly suitable for areas exposed to harsh marine conditions, offering a reliable barrier against water ingress and corrosion. The product can also be applied to old, aged coatings, including antifouling, after the recommended surface preparation.
Surface Preparation
To achieve the best results, ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and other contaminants. For bare steel, it is recommended to carry out blast cleaning to SA 2½ standards. In cases where blast cleaning is impractical, mechanical cleaning should be employed. However, hand cleaning does not achieve the required level of preparation, so care must be taken to address all areas, including edges, corners, and welds. For existing painted surfaces, they should be cleaned, degreased, and sanded to create an adequate key before applying this primer.
Application Guidelines
This primer can be applied using airless spray or brush methods, depending on the specific requirements of the job. The drying time is influenced by environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying, especially in confined spaces. The minimum overcoating time is 8 hours, but it is recommended to consult the technical data sheet for detailed instructions.
Restrictions and Limitations
It is important to note that this product should not be used on surfaces that are not properly prepared, as this can significantly reduce its effectiveness. Additionally, avoid applying the primer in conditions of high humidity or low temperature, as these can adversely affect the drying time and overall performance. The product is intended for professional or industrial use only, and users should always refer to the downloadable data sheet for more detailed information.
Recommended Products
For optimal performance and protection, it is recommended to follow up with Teamac Antifouling paints or use the primer as part of a specified Teamac anti-corrosive system. Always apply a small test area first to ensure compatibility with the existing paint systems.
