A 1-component, polymer-enriched, cementitious, high strength, adhesion promoting slurry ‘scrub coat’ for paving units. Fully complies with the relevant parts of BS 7533.
- Pre-packaged ready for on site mixing, only requiring a measured water addition
- Good freeze-thaw stability
- Resistant to oil and many chemical environments
- Placement thickness may be in the nominal range 1mm to 2mm
Bond Plus Mortar is a Portland cement based, polymer- enriched adhesive for the priming and bonding of paving units. The highly specialised mix design includes powerful plasticising agents which, combined with the polymers, produce a slurry or scrub-coat consistency that’s easily applied by brush or trowel.
When used with Parex FBC bedding mortar, Parex Bond Plus promotes adhesion and complies with or exceeds the adhesion bond strength requirements of the relevant Parts of BS 7533.
The pre-packaged product is ready for on site mixing, only requiring a measured water addition. The resulting mixes have good freeze-thaw stability and are resistant to oil and many chemical environments. Placement thickness may be in the nominal range 1mm to 2mm.
Uses include: Bonding agent for laying all sizes of paving units.

Instructions
Preparation
Contact surfaces must be sound, clean and provide a good mechanical key. Remove any loose material, laitance, plaster, paint and oily deposits. Small paving units should be dipped in water prior to priming to remove loose materials. Larger sized paving units can be brush applied.
Priming
Prepare a priming scrub coat of Bond Plus Mortar using 3.5- 4.0 litres of water per 20kg bag mix.
Mix the priming scrub coat in a suitable mixing vessel using a slow speed drill and mortar stirrer. Do not mix more than can be applied within the usable time, 45 minutes at 20°C.
Prime the prepared substrate and the under side of the paving units with the Bond Plus Mortar using a brush or trowel so the total applied thickness is 1-2mm.
Placing of Parex Fine Bedding Concrete and Paving Apply the mixed FBC to the primed substrate before the priming coat has dried. Compact the FBC to ensure good contact with the underlying primed surface. Prime the back of the paving units being used with Bond Plus Mortar. Place the units onto the wet FBC and adjust the levels as required. Lay the paving unit into the FBC immediately after priming, tapping it firmly to ensure the underlying FBC is fully compacted.
Application thickness of the FBC should be in the range of 30mm to 75mm. In situations where thick layers are required to be built up, the surface of the under layer should be left with a wood float finish and should be scored. Subsequent Bond Plus Mortar and FBC layers may be applied as soon as the initial layer is firm enough not to distort under the new work. Bond Plus Mortar may be applied at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C on a rising thermometer. For application at temperatures outside this range, contact our Technical Department on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected].
Curing
In temperate ambient conditions, no special curing is required. In severe drying conditions of high temperatures and high wind, the paved surface should be sprayed with water to assist with temperature control of the paving surface and provide water for additional curing of the FBC.
Yield
Bond Plus Mortar is packed in 20kg bags. The nominal yield obtained from these units is 13.25 litres of mixed material.
Coverage
One bag mixed with the recommended water content will cover between 7m2 at 2mm thick and 14m2 at 1mm.
