Wood Floor Oils
Buy wood floor oil at Rawlins Paints and start protecting your timber floors. We stock the best oil for hardwood floors from the biggest manufacturers with the most expertise, such as Osmo. For all kinds of wooden floor, including solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring, not just for use in homes but also commercial businesses and services with wood flooring.
Can you put oil on wood floors?
Wood oils can be applied to bare timbers and previously oiled wood floors. If the floor has been varnished, this must be removed, usually by sanding, before treating your wood floor with oil.
Oiling your wood floor puts back essential oils into the wood helping to prevent it from drying out, which can cause splits and warping and other damage.
How often should I oil my wood floors?
How often you oil wood floors depends on how much they are used; commercial timber flooring found in businesses such as shops and hotels, and services including schools and libraries, will likely have much more foot traffic than your home, for example.
What oil is best for wood?
Our no-nonsense guide to wood oils blog post has our recommendations for most wood types used in flooring (oak, pine, acacia, and more) and the oils to protect them with, including traditional oils such as Danish Oil.
Interior Furniture Oils
Buy the best oils for interior furniture at Rawlins Paints. Nourish, invigorate, and rehydrate your wood furniture with the best wood oil protection from the best brands available – Osmo, Blackfriar, and Coo-Var. We stock oils that are clear and others that colour your interior wood furniture - light and natural shades to blues, reds, and greens – able to be blended for unlimited possibilities. Suitable for almost all woods, including pine, rosewood, oak, solid wood, veneer, MDF, and more, on chairs, stools, tables, desks, and display cabinets and shelves.
The best oil for wood furniture
Traditional oils are great for use on interior wood furniture, such as Danish Oil, but we now provide wood oil products developed with superior durability, faster drying, and offering protection against the toughest conditions.
Lacq Rapid Oil 2C, for example, colours and protects interior wood surfaces with just one coat and allows surfaces to be used after just 24 hours. Great for businesses and services looking for a protective product that won’t disrupt trade.
And Osmo Polyx-Oil Original uniquely combines the advantages of natural oils and waxes in one product. Stain-resistant, water- repellent and abrasion-resistant, it results in a surface that is pleasant to the touch.
Rehydrate old wood furniture – a good clean and sanding of the surface before application of a furniture oil can revitalise old wooden furniture and give it a new lease of life in the home. With upcycling and recycling gaining in popularity, neglected fittings and furnishings are being rescued from household waste and bought up from auctions, house clearances, and charity shops.
After spending years without maintenance or in storage without proper humidity and climate controls, wood oils will soak into the wood and nourish from within. Recycling is much cheaper than buying new – which you would have to treat with wood oil anyway – and allows you to put your own character into the furniture, with our large selection of coloured wood oils.
We are often asked about vegetable oils – “Can I use olive oil on wood furniture?” – and the honest answer is it depends on the results. Vegetable oils such as olive oil, rapeseed oil, etc, can become rancid, leave the surface tacky, and are better kept for cooking, in our opinion. We have many wood furniture oils to choose from, with an option for every budget, that it makes more sense to use a professional wood oil on your furniture. Some of our wood oils, such as Lacq Rapid Oil 2C, are based on vegetable oils, refined and tested to produce excellent results on interior wood furniture.
Interior Door Oils
Buy the best oil for your interior wood doors at Rawlins Paints. Our wood oils for doors are suitable for the protection of joinery, solid and some selected veneered wood interior doors, are extremely water and dirt resistant, and enhance the colour and character of natural wood. Breathe new life into doors – we stock the biggest brands, including Osmo wood door oils, as well as traditional teak, Danish, and linseed oil from Coo-Var and Blackfriar.
If you are looking for the best oil for wooden doors, including pine doors, you’ve come to the right place.
Oiling your internal wooden doors ensures protection and nourishment, extending the lifetime of your doors many times over. Wood surfaces treated with oil are more resistant to splashes and stains, reducing damage to the wood itself, and make wood doors more versatile for use in small kitchens and bathrooms.
Rawlins are an Osmo Door Oil stockist, uniquely combining the advantages of natural oils and waxes in one product for all internal doors and joinery.
Our internal wood door oils are suitable for use on most woods on solid doors, door frames, and some selected veneered doors.
Wall and Ceiling Oils
Buy wool oil for ceilings and walls at Rawlins Paints. We stock the biggest and best manufacturers of wood oils for your wall and ceiling including Coo-Var and Blackfriar. Maintain, refresh, and revive wooden wall panelling, rails, ceiling panels, and beams, with hard wearing wood oils that bring out the beauty and rich tones of natural wood, whilst protecting from knocks and stains. Find options for almost all types of wood, including pine and cedar.
Wooden wall and ceiling fittings need maintaining just the same as other wooden furniture around a home or business. Wood ceiling panels and tongue and groove, for instance, may have to withstand higher temperatures than furnishings lower down due to heat rising, and therefore may be at risk of drying out. Beams in kitchens will have residues from oil, smoke, and fat from cooking splattering and evaporating.
Therefore, it is important to maintain your wood ceiling furnishings with our range of wood oils, nourishing the wood and protecting from everyday life, prolonging the life of the wood for many years to come.
Wall panels and rails can be faded by exposure to sunlight and UV light, as well as abrasion from passing traffic, and anything hung on them such as posters and picture frames. Our range of wooden wall oils includes coloured and tinted oils for matching updated interior design.
Worktop Oils
Buy wood worktop and tabletop oil at Rawlins Paints for ultimate protection in the kitchen and office. Our wood oils nourish and invigorate your wooden worktops, desks, shelving, and tabletop working surfaces with a breathable finish that protects against liquid spillages and chemicals, keeping them in tip-top condition for many years to come. Whether you are repairing and restoring or upcycling and rejuvenating, we will have the wood oil for your project, from popular brands including Blackfriar. Rawlins Paints are also stockists of Osmo Concrete Oil, suitable for nearly all types of concrete, artificial stone, screed, as well as microporous natural stone with a polished, sanded or break surface as well as for unglazed tiles.
Keeping kitchen worktops in excellent condition with wood oil will help protect them from day-to-day activities. Spillages from drinks such as tea and coffee, sugary cola and juices can stain wood worktops and leave behind sticky residues. Bacteria spread from food preparation, such as chopping and slicing raw meats, can hide in the wood grain from surface cleaners, making your worktop a hazard. Anti-bacterial sprays and stain removers, such as white vinegar, may harm wooden worktops not sealed or protected with wood oils, drying them out over time and leading to splitting and greying. Wood oils, such as Osmo Worktop Oil, will help protect worktops from spillages and splatters of fats and grease during cooking.
Office desks benefit from regular oiling as they can become damaged from abrasion. Desk users, at home or the workplace, should always use something to lean on whilst writing to prevent ballpoint pens working their way through paper and onto the wood itself. Mouse mats should also be used for computer mice as their plastic or aluminium construction will damage wood desktops as they move pointers around on screen.
The kitchen table is often the hub of activity, breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the family. More workers are working from home these days and so the kitchen or dining room tabletop may also be used as a desk as well as to eat food from. If you’re a parent active in schooling, then your children may be doing their homework at the table under your watchful eye.
Children love arts and crafts, “helping” with cooking and baking, and the kitchen table is the best place for it. Plenty of space to store ingredients, and an area for them to mix doughs together. Keeping tabletops maintained with wood oil, as you can see, is important since the wide variety of uses can result in damage through writing tasks, thumping dough against the surface, or stamping out shapes with cookie cutters.
Wooden worktop and tabletop oil is ideal for those who love a thrifty bargain, upcycling recycled furnishings from tired and worn wood destined for landfill into gleaming centrepieces. Refurbishing an old table, desk, or worktop with wood oil is easy to do and much cheaper than buying new furniture.
Protect your exterior wood window frames, sills, doors, and joinery, with window and door oil from Rawlins Paints.
Wind, rain, intense heat from the sun, UV light, and abrasion all weighs a heavy toll on external wood surfaces. Our durable oils help maintain the colour of the wood, minimising greying and discolouration from exposure outside, and the effects of weathering such as blistering, splitting, and rot.
Rawlins Paints are official stockists of Osmo, Blackfriar, and more, providing hard-wearing exterior wood oils to trade, commercial projects, and homeowners, in clear and coloured finishes.
Exterior Joinery Oils
At Rawlins Paints you will find the best oils for wooden window and door frames, suitable for most species of wood including oak and beech. Protect wooden window sills, window shutters, door frames, and other external joinery with the natural finish of wood oil.
External windows and doors will have to cope with extreme weathering all year round. Applying wood oil to window and door frames and sills will help them resist water and UV degradation, preventing cracks, peeling, and flaking.
Maintaining your exterior wooden surfaces will go some way to keeping them structurally sound, preventing intruders (human and animal) taking advantage of weak points around the edge of a door or window and gaining access to your property or business.
Use Osmo oils outside to not only protect, but also colour external wood with 20+ shades to choose from.
What is the best treatment for external oak doors?
A wood oil complete with UV protection will help keep your oak door looking as good as new; Osmo UV-Protection-Oil is ideal for all vertical wood surfaces in outdoor areas, such as external doors.
How do you oil an external wooden front door?
For preparation of the surface (critical for maximum protection), Osmo states that the surface must be "clean, dry, and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%)".
"Fresh wood, containing natural wood extractives and especially hard wood needs to weather off (for approximately 6 weeks) after installation. Thereby the wood becomes absorbent and the wood finish adheres optimally".
"For renovations, clean old microporous wood finishes thoroughly. Degrey any already greyed wood before applying and clean old microporous stains thoroughly. Old paints and lacquers must be completely removed."
For application:
"Apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well. Allow to dry for approx. 12 hours under good ventilation. Then apply the second coat. When recoating colour treated surfaces, or for renovation works, one coat applied to the clean and dry surface is usually sufficient."
All of our products have data sheets available with application instructions, as well as the tins themselves. Our technical team can also be consulted on the correct techniques.
What is the best oil for wooden window frames?
Osmo have products (UV-Protection Oil) for colouring, sealing, and protecting exterior wooden window frames. They provide many forms of resistance and defence for wooden frames against damaging UV, dirt, algae and mould, with excellent waterproofing.
How do you treat dry wooden window frames?
Window frames left exposed to weather are prone to dry out and crack, inviting water, rot, fungal infections, and more. Sanding these frames down and then filling in any cracks and damage can help refurbish them, before coating with an appropriate protective product such as our wood oils.
How do you treat wooden window sills?
Much the same as our advice for application to exterior doors further above; ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from any contaminants such as waxes, paints, and varnishes by sanding and applying degreasers and cleaners. Then apply the wood oil with the grain and allow time for the first coat to dry before recoating. All application details can be found in the data sheets on each product page.
How do you waterproof a wooden window frame?
Our wood oils from Osmo provide excellent waterproofing to exterior wooden window frames, enhancing the look of the grain with excellent finishes and colouring.
Outdoor Furniture Oils
Find the best oil for outdoor wood furniture here at Rawlins Paints, where we stock the most renowned and trusted brands in wood treatment oils for your outdoor furnishings including seats, tables, benches, and much more. Choose from teak oil, raw and boiled linseed oil, Danish oil, and protective oil-based protection from Osmo, Coo-Var, Blackfriar, and Flag.
Our clear and coloured wood oils nourish garden furniture from within, helping to regulate moisture and to prevent swelling and shrinkage of the wood. Wood oil finishes help keep your garden furnishings in great condition for years to come, preventing expensive purchasing of new tables and chairs. Restore older furniture destined for landfill by upcycle and recycling!
Should you oil or varnish outdoor furniture?
A varnish adds a protective layer to wood preventing water and UV light from penetrating the surface and causing damage. Wood oils, on the other hand, nourish and protect wood from within and restore the appearance of wooden garden furniture.
What is the best protection/treatment for wooden garden furniture?
At Rawlins paints we stock wood oils, varnishes, stains, and paints for protecting and rejuvenating wooden outdoor furniture. Many swear by oils as the prudent choice due to its nourishment of the wood. They penetrate deep into the fibres to protect from within against water and UV light, regulating moisture, prevents swelling and shrinkage.
What is the best oil to use on outdoor furniture?
There are many disagreements online over the best wood oil for garden furniture; teak oil is a firm favourite of customers whilst our Danish oils gives a harder finish than teak oil on wood. All woods grey over time in exposure to sunlight and will need recoating after months or years.
Can you use Danish oil on garden furniture?
You can use Danish oil on outdoor wood furniture for a durable and water-resistant seal.
Wooden Cladding Oils
Invigorate and nourish your wood cladding with our range of wood cladding oils. From trusted and renowned brands including Osmo, and Flag, colour and protect all types of vertical wood cladding including cedar, oak, teak, pine, and more. Provide resistance to UV light, greying, dirt, and outstanding waterproofing.
Easy to apply and quick to dry, Rawlins Paints offer one-coat cladding oils that are user friendly in application and maintenance, and safe for around humans and pets.
Can you use decking oil on cladding?
It is always best to use an all-round oil or specific oils for vertical surfaces, rather than wood oils meant for other uses. Decking oil in particular often has anti-slip properties that are simply not required on vertically-installed wood cladding.
Also note that our top picks for decking - Osmo Decking-Oil - and cladding - Osmo UV-Protection Oil - have different application and preparation requirements for the type of wood you intend to oil.
Should I oil cedar cladding?
Cedar wood cladding can be treated, weatherproofed, and waterproofed, with wood oil. Osmo recommends that new or freshly sanded ingredient rich wood such as cedar needs at least 12 weeks exposure to exterior elements before application.
After the weathering period, it’s generally recommended to de-grey the bare surface with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel, damp rinse, then clean the surface from the extractive content before application - always trial apply!
How do you waterproof wooden cladding?
Wood oils nourish and protect wood from within, including waterproofing. They help regulate moisture in the fibres and protect the coating against mould, algae and fungal attack.
How do I stop my wood cladding going GREY?
Wood will naturally grey in exposure to sunlight; Osmo UV-Protection Oil works by slowing greying process by (UV factor) 12 times in comparison to untreated wood. For already-greyed wood, see Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel.
Decking Oils
Reinvigorate your wooden decking with decking oil from the biggest brands such as Osmo, Solignum, and Flag. Choose from 100's of shades to recolour your decking, combined with weatherproofing and UV stability to help reduce waterlogging, swelling, and shrinkage. Our range of decking oils requiring minimal preparation and with excellent coverage rates, saving you money where it counts.
Why should you use decking oil instead of varnish or paint? Decking oil soaks into the wood and protects from within, protecting and nourishing the wood, and enhancing its natural beauty, especially with hardwoods. If you had decking installed because you like the look of wood, then oiling will only serve to enhance it.
How often should you oil decking?
Traditional wood decking oils typically need refreshing every 6 to 12 months to maintain protection and their pleasing finish.
At Rawlins paints, we stock next-generation decking oils from Osmo that colour and nourish wood decking in one application. They leave a microporous, penetrating finish which does not crack, peel or flake, and will last much longer than traditional wood oils such as boiled or raw linseed oils.
Is it better to oil or paint decking?
Decking oils nourish the wood from within, replacing essential oils may have been lost from exposure to the elements. Our next-generation wood oils from Osmo also provide extreme weatherproofing and UV stability. Using a wood oil on decking preserves the natural look of the wood.
Paints are also very protective and a great choice for decking, however, you cover the wood grain and its natural beauty with opaque colours. So it depends on the finish you are looking for!
Does decking oil peel?
Providing you have prepared the surface correctly and applied the wood oil in-line with the manufacturer's instructions (found on each products' respective data sheet), our next-generation wood decking oils will not crack, peel or flake.
Shed and Fence Oils
Apply clear and tinted oils to your wood garden fence, shed, and summerhouse, to aid protection against UV light and other weather elements throughout the year. Protecting your garden wooden structures helps keep them structurally sound, keeping rot, algae, and fungal attacks at bay for longer.
Our collection of wood oils for gardens can be applied with just a few coats and are friendly to humans, pets, and wildlife, once dry. Available in clear, they are also tintable and ready to buy in many natural wood shades and tones from the biggest brands, including Osmo, and Flag.
Protecting garden fences, sheds, and summerhouses helps prevent vandals and wildlife from breaching rotten areas and gaining access to areas you have been keeping private. It helps prevent crime such as stealing from garden sheds or gaining access to home through rear entrances and windows, as well as wildlife pilfering your veg patch and fruit trees, or breaking into sheds and summerhouses to hibernate.
Should I oil my fence and shed?
Yes - nourishing wood with oil refreshes natural oils that have been lost during exposure to the elements, and protects wood from within. Our traditional and next-generation oils provide excellent resistance to weather and fungal attacks that would otherwise rot wood, resulting in expensive repairs to fencing and sheds.
How often should you oil your fence?
Traditional wood oils, such as Danish Oil, require multiple coats to provide adequate protection to sheds and fences, and may require regular recoating through the year to maintain. Our next-generation wood oils from Osmo are one-coat products that last much longer and protect against UV light, water, dirt, and fungal attacks.
Can you use decking oil on a shed?
We recommend use of wood oils designed for vertical surfaces such as Osmo.
How do I stop my fence going GREY?
Wood will grey naturally over time when exposed to sunlight. Using wood oils on exterior wood surfaces, such as sheds and fences, will slow the effect and allow you to enjoy the natural beauty of wood for much longer. Osmo UV-Protection Oil, for example, maintains wood’s natural wetted colour, slowing the greying process by (UV factor) 12 times in comparison to untreated wood.
