Wood Floor Paints
Buy wooden floor paint at Rawlins Paints today! Wood floor protection doesn’t have to be boring – we have 100’s of colours available in timber floor paints. Renovate and transform your existing wood floors, matching existing décor or contrast from furniture and fittings.
The best floor paint for wooden floors includes Rust-Oleum Chalky Floor Paints; one of the most durable wood floor paints that resist knocks and scratches, it helps protect your wood floor from people walking in shoes and heels, chairs and furniture dragging across the floor, and impact damage from children playing, knocking toys against the surface.
What is the best paint to use on wood floors?
Wood floor paints must be durable – they’re walked on in shoes and heels, have furniture dragged across them - such as chairs and tables – and children crawling and jumping on the surface, as well as pushing toys and whacking them into the floor.
Our wooden floor paints are resistant enough for day-to-day walking traffic and child’s play and come in matt finishes with anti slip. They are also suitable for painting stairs! For areas subject to heavy wear, we have many commercial and industrial-scale coatings, including garage floor paints.
Can you paint a real wood floor?
You can! Our wooden floor paints are great for use on popular wood species such as pine, oak, and acacia. If you are unsure as to the type of wood that comprises your floor, or you have a species not mentioned, always test on an inconspicuous area before painting.
Surfaces, where stain bleed may be an issue, should always be primed, including knots with an appropriate stain blocking primer. The surface should also be clean and free from wax (clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit) or oil, to achieve the best finish.
Can you paint wood floors without sanding?
Rust-Oleum recommends that bare wood, previously painted or varnished surfaces should be sanded before painting.
Should I paint my wood floors?
You don’t have to live with natural wood and unsightly floorboards; our floor paints for wood will help extend their life, evens out gouging and dents in the surface, hides imperfections, and can provide a finished look to older floors that have damaged in the past.
We also have a wide range of Oils, Varnishes, and Waxes for wood floors, should you be against painting wooden floors but wish to keep the natural beauty of the wood and provide nourishment and protection for them.
What wood floor paint colours do you have? Can I buy wood floor paint in grey?
Our range of Rust-Oleum Chalky Floor Paint has 110 colours available, from neutral shades like Steamed Milk and Antique White, and mid-tones like Anthracite and other grey tones and shades. Darker, bolder and vibrant, and more pastel shades are available. These are ideal for creating a shabby-chic style remodelling of a wood floor, transforming spaces.
Waterproof floor paint for wood
Our interior wood floor paints are not recommended for areas subject to regular water contact such as bathrooms, showers, wet rooms, and changing rooms. Our technical team can advise on a suitable product – contact on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected].
Interior Furniture Paints
Update the look of your interior furniture with our range of paints for wood. With 2,000 colours available in RAL, British Standard, and NCS, your ideal match is just a click away. We stock fast drying, high coverage, low-odour wood furniture paint so that your project won’t drag on, with much less disruption to business or family life. Choose from the best brands, including Remmers, Tikkurila, Mathys, and Rust-Oleum.
Painting wood furniture appeals to many as it helps to hide blemishes and marks, stains, and other damage that may be difficult, time-consuming, or expensive to remedy. Our wood furniture paints are tintable to virtually any colour and so it is easy to match or contrast from your existing decoration and fittings. Ideal for businesses that inherit furnishings, able to match them to your corporate colour schemes.
Painting over stained wood often requires the use of a primer to help the topcoat adhere to the substrate properly. Varnished woods will also require a primer and usually need sanding down, however, we also stock paints that can be applied directly over sound varnishes and existing paints with little to no preparation.
Rust-Oleum’s Chalky Finish Furniture Paint and Matt Furniture Paint are some of the best paints for upcycling furniture. Chairs and stools, tables and desks, wardrobes and shelving – all can be recycled and given a new lease of life with a shabby-chic vintage finish. They can be applied directly to bare wood and most painted or varnished furniture without sanding or priming. At just one coat and plenty of coverage, they’re super cost effective, keeping your thrifty finds dirt cheap.
Interior Wooden Door Paints
Paint your interior wooden doors in one of 2,400+ colours, at Rawlins Paints. Our interior door paints are super durable and available in different finishes, from matt and eggshell, to satin and high gloss. Options include mould resistance, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms; stain blocking, for refurbishment, great for landlords and new businesses; low odour, to return areas into service quickly and minimise disruption to family homes or business premises.
Spruce up and refresh your interior wood doors with a lick of paint. Blemishes and imperfections, that would otherwise need sanding, can simply be painted over for a uniform appearance. New carpets? No need to buy expensive new doors to match or contrast your new interior design choices, when you can pick one of 2,400 colours to paint in.
Interior wood door paint is a favourite of upcycling. Find older doors unwanted by others in household waste centres, charity recycling stores, or on online marketplaces for a fraction of the cost. These can then be painted to a colour of your choice, covering over damage or wear from years or use or extended times in storage.
Wood Wall and Ceiling Paints
Buy paints for wooden walls and ceilings at Rawlins Paints in over 2,400 colours from RAL, NCS, and British Standard. Colour and protect wooden beams, wood panels, picture rails, tongue and groove interior cladding, and much more. Find fast-drying paints that block stains and have low odour, returning interior areas back into service quickly to minimise disruption. Ideal for homes as well as businesses, redecorate your wooden fittings and furnishings with heavy duty, hard-wearing wood paints.
You don’t have to live with natural wood interiors if you would prefer solid opaque colours. Your wooden walls and ceilings can easily be painted, after some preparation, in one of 2,400 colours. Painting beams, panelling, rails, etc, helps cover up blemishes and stains, which is ideal if the wood is older and has scars from former ownership that could take much sanding to rectify.
Similarly, thrifters that love to upcycle can restore wood furnishings and make their own mark on them, turning one man’s trash into another person’s treasure with a simple lick of paint.
Our range of wood paints for walls and ceilings will block and lock stains from bleeding through, with exceptional adherence to older sound coatings. Quick drying, they won’t take an area or room out of service for long, so that businesses can get back to serving customers without the overwhelming smell of paint. Homeowners can enjoy their renovated space much quicker. Re-decorating doesn’t have to be a weekend job anymore.
Wooden Front Door Paints
Find the best paint for wooden front doors and other exterior joinery at Rawlins Paints. We stock exterior wood paints for windows, doors, and joinery, from the biggest manufacturers and most renowned names, ensuring you get the best protection and decoration that will last for years. These include Wethertex, a Yorkshire-based paint company that specialise in exterior paints for wood and masonry. Their OT25 Wood-Flex Satin Opaque Timber Paint provides long term colour stability for timber and total weather protection for up to 12 years. Zinsser AllCoat Exterior is also a long lasting all surface paint offering up to 15 years performance - both these coatings have a colour range of more than 4,200.
What kind of paint do you use on a wooden front door?
Not a cheap one, that's for sure. You'll soon find the colour fading and the finish blistering from exposure to sunshine and UV light, and that's if it hasn't peeled off after a few days anyway!
Rawlins Paints only stock wood door and window paints with outstanding adhesion to the substrate (with proper preparation), excellent colour fastness, and extreme UV resistance and weatherproofing that will last for many years. You're not stuck for colour, either, with 4,200+ options to choose from, including popular colours like RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey and Chartwell Green.
We also stock specialist products for painting uPVC and composite doors here.
How do you paint an exterior wood door?
Preparation is key to providing the best protection for your wood doors, window frames, and other joinery. You may find it easier to remove the door from its hinges before starting; where this isn't possible mask all areas you don't wish to paint.
The surface must be free of dust, flaking and non-adhering existing coatings, and contaminants such as waxes and oils, as they will affect the adhesion and application of paints. We stock fungicidal washes and mould and mildew removers to clean residues from the surface.
Sand the edges of remaining paints until they are smooth - always follow the paint manufacturer's application instructions as some may require that all existing paint is removed.
Apply paints by brush or roller, going with the grain. Where multiple coats are required, allow the preceding coat enough time to dry before recoating.
We must stress the importance of reading the data sheets for each product before buying or applying - these can be found in the "data sheets" tab below the image and delivery options on each product page. If something doesn't work or you require further help, contact our technical team by phone or email, who will be happy to help.
Outdoor Furniture Paints
There's no need to throw away wood garden furniture if the natural wood has greyed or the stain or paint faded. Benches, seats, tables, and more can be repurposed, recycled, and upcycled with a lick of paint, enhancing its look but also providing much needed protection.
Rawlins Paints stock the most trusted and renowned brands in wood paints such as Osmo and Flag, with a whole host of colours to choose from to colour your garden furniture with, from trendy greys through to traditional greens and browns. Find the best paint for outdoor wood furniture in the UK!
Wood garden furniture sits outside in all weather; sunshine and UV light will dull colours over time, especially cheaper makes with little to no UV stability. Water can pool and find its way into cracks, freezing in cold weather to make those crevices bigger. This can then invite mould, mildew, fungal infections and insect infestations. Outdoor furniture paint will help protect your wooden garden seats, benches, and tables, extending their life for many years to come. Saving your wallet from an expensive outlay on new garden furniture!
Is it better to paint or stain outdoor wood furniture?
All exterior wood surfaces, be it furniture or cladding, decking or doors, will wear and age from exposure to the elements. Rain, snow, ice, wind, bright sunshine, and humidity will weigh heavily on outdoor furniture, and therefore it is best to use hardwearing protection such as stains and paints to extend the life of your wood benches and chairs, tables, and more.
Exterior wood stains and paints both offer protection to wood. Stain will still show the natural grain through the clear or coloured coating, enhancing its beauty, and leaving you with natural-looking wood furniture that is protected and waterproofed.
Exterior wood furniture paints will cover the grain with an opaque colour of your choosing (4,200 available at Rawlins Paints), filling in imperfections such as holes and cracks. Using paint on your outdoor wood furniture provides weather protection and waterproofing whilst matching to other colours in the garden, such as fencing, pergolas, cladding, etc.
How do you prepare exterior wood for painting?
Most woods such as oak, pine, and spruce, should be sanded down, removing flaking paints and existing lacquers. You can apply additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insects before painting.
Other ingredient-rich hardwoods may require a weathering period of at least 12 weeks exposure to exterior elements before painting.
Each of our outdoor wood furniture paints has its own data sheet with application instructions, for further referencing.
Can I paint over stained wood?
The general answer is yes, however, the manufacturers we stock recommend testing a small and inconspicuous area for testing first. Preparation, as always, is key to the finish and is dependant on the type of stain used and the state of the wood being painted over. Always ensure the surface is clean and dry before painting, in line with the manufacturer's guidelines.
Can you paint over stained wood without primer?
No primer is required before using Osmo Country Colour on outdoor furniture, however, the substrate must be prepared suitably and be clean and free of anything that could affect adhesion. If in doubt, always test a smaller and inconspicuous area for adhesion before painting.
Does outdoor paint protect wood?
Yes. Our outdoor garden furniture paints help prevent degradation of the substrate due to ultraviolet light (UV) and erosion, such as wind blowing abrasive dirt and sand particles over the surface, or animals, adults, and children brushing past. Exterior paints can also help protect the wood underneath the coating by sealing in natural resins that would otherwise be removed through sun exposure. They also prevent external moisture from rain and ice penetrating the wood, which can cause swelling.
Do I need to seal exterior wood before painting?
Our exterior wood paints for garden furniture can be applied without sealer but may require a primer in certain circumstances, to achieve the intended finish.
Wood Cladding Paints
Extend the life of your wood cladding by painting the surface with one of our cladding coatings. Paint will fill in holes and seal splinters in wood, helping to waterproof cladding from the elements such as erosion and UV degradation, and make it last much longer against rot and fungal attacks. Wood cladding is used on retail units such as coffee shops and takeaways, as well as offices and workshops, and with more people working from home these may include garden offices and creative spaces.
We stock a wide range of the best cladding paints from the most popular manufacturers, including Rust-Oleum, Wethertex, Zinsser, Osmo, Bradite, and Remmers. These include long-life protection for up to 12 years and huge colour ranges of up to 4,200 shades including RAL, NCS, and British Standard. Other benefits include fungal protection, outstanding adhesion to substrates, and fast drying - no more worrying about the weather.
What paint do you use on wooden cladding?
Whilst you can paint wooden cladding, the type of paint used depends on its location and environment.
Exterior wood cladding has to withstand adverse weather and climatic changes - heavy rain, frost, ice, hot sun, UV light, etc. The best outdoor cladding paints are those that let the surface breathe whilst preventing moisture in, reducing wood swelling and shrinkage, and hold their colour successfully without fading.
At Rawlins paints we have such exterior cladding coatings with huge colours ranges, from Zinsser, Osmo, Remmers, and Wethertex.
Can you paint old cladding?
For paint to properly protect outdoor wood cladding, the substrate itself must be sound and in good condition. Neglected exterior wood surfaces can be sanded and cracks and damage fixed with filler before painting, but if the wood is rotten or broken, it will need replacing rather than painting.
How do you paint outdoor cladding?
Preparation is always key to getting the finish your require. Each product has a data sheet with the manufacturer's instructions for preparing the surface with sanding, filling, cleaning, degreasing, and priming, if needed. Only then should you apply outdoor cladding paint; brush or roll with the grain, allowing time for the first coat to dry if a second is needed.
What do you paint pine cladding with?
Our cladding paints are suitable for all woods including oak, spruce, cedar, teak, and many more hardwoods and ingredient-rich species; Osmo recommends using WR Base Coat on pine cladding before applying Osmo Country Colour on top.
Decking Paints
Colour and protect your wooden decking with anti slip paint for wood. Our non slip deck paints provide a firm footing in wet and cold weather and are suitable for homes and business including restaurants, pubs, and even boats, including narrowboats and pleasurecraft.
Teamac Suregrip Deck Paint, a non slip wood deck coating, is available in 8 colours and has an aggregated finish to ensure good footholding.
Is painting decking a good idea?
If you are after a solid colour for your decking and don't mind not seeing the natural wood grain effect, then painting decking is for you. We offer 9 colours across the spectrum for your wood cladding, complete with an aggregated finish to provide slip resistance in wet and wintry weather.
Is it better to paint or stain decking?
Painting wood decking fills marks and damage such as missing knots and splits, preventing water from penetrating the wood surface. it also hides the natural grain of the wood for a solid, opaque, coloured finish.
Can I use fence paint on decking?
Only if you want to paint your decking every few months. Decking paints are tougher as they have to withstand foot traffic, pools of water, and most provide slip resistance for use in wet conditions and during icy winters. Fence paints may typically peel or simply erode from the surface not long after application as they are meant for vertical wood installations.
Can you paint decking GREY?
You can - Teamac Suregrip Deck Paint is available 9 bold colours including grey and light grey, with an aggregated, anti-slip finish
Should I paint brand new decking?
It is typically recommended that decking be left to weather for a period of 12-24 weeks before painting to allow existing treatments to erode. This will help adhesion of your paint, ensuring that it stays in place and provides maximum protection for years to come.
Do you need to prime decking before painting?
Always read the data sheets of a product before purchasing or applying to the substrate, for manufacturer specifications and recommendations for preparing the surface prior to painting. Our pick for decking paints, Teamac Suregrip Deck Paint, requires that "all surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants" - "other surfaces have to be prepared and primed with the suitable primer for that substrate."
"Existing painted surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate "key" is produced. Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly."
Shed and Fence Paints
Painting wooden sheds, fences, cabins, playhouses, and summerhouses, shouldn't be a chore, and neither should choosing the right paint for the job. We stock wood paints that offer waterproofing, UV and weather protection in 2,400+ colours from RAL, NCS, and British Standard. Choose from the top manufacturers including Zinsser, Wethertex, Osmo, Remmers, and Mathys.
Fences that are allowed to become degraded over time offer little to no prevention to intruders and wildlife, such as rabbits and foxes, which can cause security concerns for homeowners and landlords. This can also cause damage to landscaping, vegetable plots, fruit trees, and more.
Ensuring that sheds are properly coated and protected helps guard against invasion from wildlife looking to nest, and for vandals to find a way to open a hole large enough to steal from.
Protect wooden structures from the elements all year round with our exterior wood paints, ensuring that sheds and fences remain waterproof, secure, and in great condition.
What is the best paint for a garden fence?
One that will waterproof the wood, protect against harmful UV light, and resist algae and fungal infestations. Our shed and fences paints include Wethertex OT25, Osmo Country Colour, Remmers Aqua, and Zinsser Allcoat Exterior, all of which provide excellent protection for exterior wood surfaces left to brace the elements.
What colour fence paint makes a garden look bigger?
Natural colours like greens and browns will help your garden fence blend in with surroundings like trees and bushes, creating a seamless transition for your eyes.
In decorating it is, correctly, perceived that lighter colours create the illusion of more space. In the garden, however, "light" doesn't have to mean white or cream. Such shades can take focus away from your planting and landscaping. A light blue-grey tone works well with neutral colours such as your garden furniture, or for sea-side style gardens.
We have 2,400+ colour shades to choose from, with popular favourites including Anthracite Grey and Chartwell Green.
Can you paint your side of a neighbour's fence?
We aren't legal experts and would recommend you speak to your neighbour first - but it's assumed that your neighbour's fence is your neighbour's fence, and so you would need permission to paint it.
Barn and Farm Paints
Protect wooden barns, storage units, sheds, stables, chicken coops, and other wood farm buildings with our collection of paints and coatings, with 2,400+ colours from RAL, British Standard, and NCS ranges.
These long-lasting finishes resist blistering, cracking and flaking, rain and severe weather, rot and algae build-up, with some products that provide a low reflective matt finish. Protecting your wood exteriors now will mean less maintenance in the future, including replacing entire sections of wood and the disruption that entails.
