Hi I wish I’d seen your site earlier rather than just listening to our builders advice! We’re exposing our steel and painting it a bright turquoise. It’s a large steel and will be a big feature but we bought Thermoguard, not realising that you can get a thin intumescent paint! I’m now reading as much advice as possible to try and get a good finish. It suggests a primer? What primer would you recommend please? Any tips on how to make it look good? Many thanks
Before applying Thermoguard Thermocoat Ultimate we would recommend bare mild steel to be primed with Thermoguard Steel Fire Paint Primer. Intumescent paints by nature are very thick so we recommend that the paint be kept in warm conditions prior to application and the paint be mechanically mixed to improve fluidity. We'd also recommend applying a number of thinner coats rather than thick coats to improve the appearance.
