I have a pair of wrought iron gates made about 5 years ago with a galvanised finish. Completely weathered with a very small dot of rust near one hinge hangers. I would like a black smooth finish (gloss or satin which ever is the better protection) Can you recommend a specific product or possibly a good test / comparison source Kind Regards, Simon
Remove grease, oil and all other surface contaminations by alkaline or high pressure cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents (Rust-Oleum Mathys ND14 Cleaner Degreaser). Remove previous coatings completely. Remove salts, 'white rust', etc., by washing with Rust-Oleum Mathys 108 Surfa Etch Solution. The surface must be clean and dry during application.
Then apply Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion followed by Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original.
Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original is available in satin or gloss finish providing the same level of protection.
