I have two projects where we are considering having exposed ceiling joists. One wants to see the timber, one wants to have them painted white. Do we need to paint with fire retardant paint? What about any exposed fixings? I would love to know more about what is required from a fire safety perspective so that I can advise my clients accordingly.
Fire protection would almost certainly be required here however specifics would need to be sought from the local authority to the projects. Once this advice has been gained, we would need to know the following to provide details on the best product(s) to use;
- Dimensions of joists
- Length of joists
- Number of joists
- Level of Fire Protection required (Class 1, Class 0, 30min, 60min, etc.)
- Type of timber (i.e. pine, oak, CLT, etc.)
- Internal or external
- Clear or coloured coating required?
- Bare or previously coated?
