Need Help?

Hello, I am trying to refurb my crittal windows, they are from 1926 so un galvanised. from bare metal could you please recommend what products could be used to end up with a durable finish, some of the ironmongery closes directly against the frame and want to avoid patches of wear at these points. Many thanks Angharad

Assuming the old crittal windows are taken back to bare metal, they are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you could consider the option below.

Apply one coat of Tikkurila Temacoat RM 40 or if corroded Tikkurila Temabond ST 200 to all exposed rebates and allow to fully dry.

When dry replace all glass and re-point with a good quality paintable glazing compound.

Abrade overall all remaining areas to provide a ‘key’ and to remove any zinc salt/oxidation.

Followed by a patch coat of Tikkurila Temabond ST 200 to any prepared corroded sections, then a full coat of Tikkurila Temacoat RM 40.

Then a Tikkurila Temadur  topcoat can be applied.
