Assuming the timber is not exposed to direct flame contact, it is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Stonelux Primer & Undercoat followed by Stonelux Fireplace Paint.

This is available in a range of colours in many stone finishes.

Please note this is resistant to 300°C but must be a minimum of 10cm from any heat source .
