Spreading Rate
These will vary depending on substrate, the site conditions and longevity required.
Typically spreading rates will vary depending on the end use.
- 6-8 square metres per litre for spray application
- 2-3 square metres per litre for brush or roller application
- Dependent on substrate, texture and porosity of the surface
- Apply 2 coats
Drying Times
- Drying is approximately 2-4 hours dependent on ambient temperature
- Avoid painting when rain is expected or under poor drying conditions – below 5°C
- Curing of the coating can be extended at lower temperatures, dependent on coating thickness, substrate and texture
Preparation
- All surfaces should be thoroughly power washed before application of a binder prior to topcoating for best results
- All surfaces should be dry (not damp)
- Free from loose or flaking material, dirt grease and vegetative growth
- Vacuum or pressure blasting with air or water may remove any debris
- Brushing (manual or machine) may be suitable
- Not to be applied if there is salt contamination or frost
Application
- Stir well before use as stainers used can separate over time, mix thoroughly when using different batches
- Please follow the Coverage rates shown in Spreading Rate Section
- Surfaces that are cold – below 5°C – are not suitable for coating. Hot surfaces – above 30°C – should be cooled with water spray before application otherwise paint will dry before film formation is completed
- Apply an even coat either by brush, roller or by airless spray
- Tip size of 28 Thou is recommended for airless spray
- A new macadam surface should be left to oxidise for at least four weeks (longer in winter than in summer) before painting
- Not suitable for use on open graded macadam or other materials incorporating “cut back” bitumen
- New concrete should be allowed to mature for several months before coating
Initial play on the surface:
- Britannia Playground Paint should be applied during the summer months, when surfaces should be left to dry for approximately 2-4 hours before they are re-opened for use
- At the beginning and towards the end of summer, when temperatures are cooler and drying can take longer, it is advisable to extend this period by 1-2 hours or even overnight depending on the prevailing weather
Cleaning
- Clean all equipment immediately with water after use
Shelf Life & Storage
- Up to 12 months if stored correctly in an unopened container
- Store above 5°C

- In case of contact with eyes wash immediately with plenty of water
- Remove splashes from skin with soap and water or a recognised hand cleaner
- Protect from freezing
- Do not apply paint if there is a risk of heavy rain or frost
