Teamac Duracote Red Oxide Paint
Teamac Duracote Red Oxide Paint is a versatile and durable solution designed to provide superior protection against corrosion. It combines the functionality of a primer and a finish in one single coat, streamlining the painting process and ensuring a robust, long-lasting finish.
Application and Uses
Duracote Red Oxide Paint is perfect for coating metal structures, machinery, and equipment. It can be applied directly to prepared surfaces, ensuring they are clean, dry, and free from rust. For maximum protection, it is recommended to use a suitable primer, such as Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer, before applying this topcoat. This product is designed for use in both indoor and outdoor settings, providing reliable protection against the elements.
- Can be applied with a brush, roller, or airless spray.
- Ideal for use in harsh industrial environments where corrosion resistance is critical.
- Not suitable for use on surfaces that are not metal or those exposed to extreme temperatures.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying.
Important Considerations
It is essential to follow proper surface preparation guidelines to achieve the best results. Bare steel should be blasted to SA 2½, or mechanically cleaned if blasting is not possible. Avoid applying the product in conditions where the temperature is below the dew point, as this can affect the paint's performance. Also, ensure the area is well-ventilated to prevent inhalation of vapors.
Complementary Products
For enhanced corrosion resistance, consider using the Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer as a base coat. This primer provides additional protection, particularly in environments with high humidity or exposure to saltwater.

Questions
Question about the product
Bob on 2023-07-31 20:45:05 | Question:
So I have applied one coat to side of narrowboat, scabbled down to steel then sanded to bare metal. The data sheet says it can be reapplied coat on coat, with the weather as poor as it is this year I’m waiting to apply second coat. Does it need to keyed prior to another coat or can it just be over coated on itself ?. And can I just key it each year and apply another coat as and when required?. Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied coat on coat. However, if the previous coat has fully cured, which takes around 5 days at 20 Degrees ░, you'll need to abrade the existing coating, which will ensure the subsequent coat can adhere successfully.
Mark on 2021-03-25 17:06:51 | Question:
As daft as this may sound, is this product aquatic friendly? I need something to paint a galvanised roof of my koi pond. If this isn’t suitable, can you recommend a product that is please? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint is not aquatic friendly, assuming the galvanised is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data sheet (treated with Teamac Mordant Solution (T Wash) prior to application ) we can recommend Teamac Metaclor Antifouling Primer followed by Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint. Once fully cured this is will be fine for aquatic life.
matt on 2019-09-22 15:07:53 | Question:
Would this be a good product to use on sea water vessels to protect the steel keels? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
In this sort of environment you would be better using Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer on the topsides and Teamac Metaclor Underwater CR Primer anywhere below the waterline.
Neil Tulloch on 2018-10-01 18:55:21 | Question:
Is one coat ok or do you recommend two |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Teamac Duracote Red Oxide Paint can be applied directly to prepared iron or steel, a minimum of 2 coats are recommended when leaving as a finish. Alternatively one coat can be applied if another suitable topcoat is being applied subsequently. For greater protection prime first with Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer.
Bsrry Tindall on 2018-03-21 15:05:18 | Question:
Can this paint be used on wood please? Barry |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Teamac Duracote Red Oxide Paint is not designed for application to wood but could be applied if necessary. We would however recommend the use of Teamac Metalastic Metal Protective Paint Colours instead where possible.
