Questions
Question about the product
John Jennings on 2023-10-18 08:00:08 | Question:
Hi which undercoat is best to use and how many coats? I'm painting a narrowboat |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the substrate is metal and suitably prepared in accordance with the technical data sheet, we'd recommend 3 coats of HMG KX Undercoat, prior to application of HMG Coach Enamel to a Satin, Matt or Gloss finish, in your choice of 3500 RAL, BS or NCS Colours.
Mike on 2023-09-07 12:06:38 | Question:
Hi, would it be okay to use coach enamel on a wooden bannister, I am thinking that because its very tough and hardwearing. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, but this product is a topcoat, so assuming the wooden bannister is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we would recommend priming with HMG Synthetic BDX Primer then two coats of HMG Coach Enamel. This can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a matt, satin or gloss finish.
Andy North on 2023-08-05 14:48:40 | Question:
I want to paint an aluminium caravan with HMG coach enamel. What etch primer is compatible? Many thanks, Andy |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the caravan is bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet it should be etch-primed with the HMG ST3000 LF 63 Chromate Free 2K Etch Primer. Followed by HMG Synthetic BDX Primer before application of HMG Coach Enamel.
Neil on 2023-05-15 18:28:01 | Question:
Is the coach enamel ideal for narrowboats. I need to repaint a craftmaster paint in a maroon which as lost all gloss finish after 5 years. I'm changing the maroon to grey. Kind regards Neil. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming you are painting areas of the boat that are above the waterline and splash zone, the previously applied paint is clean, dry, sound and sanded prior to application this could be used. We would recommend to test on a small area prior to full application for compatibility and adhesion.
David on 2023-02-21 22:01:22 | Question:
Hello. I am trying to find a colour match for my 1977 VW. It was sprayed before I bought it, but I don't know the colour name or number. Do you sell sample pots so I could try a few shades ? Thanks David |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We can mix many paints to most RAL, NCS or BS colours, Colour Sachet Samples are available of these in a generic paint to aid choosing a colour. We can also offer a Colour Matching Service if you wish to send in a sample. Unfortunately we cannot mix to automotive paint code.
Jake on 2022-10-07 10:29:06 | Question:
Is there a primer coat that needs doing before applying this top coat? Or can you use this top coat straight on? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the area to be painted is bare steel, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we would recommend the areas are first primed with HMG Synthetic BDX Primer followed by HMG Synthetic High Opacity Undercoat then the HMG Coach Enamel.
Will on 2022-09-06 10:18:29 | Question:
Can this be applied via a spray gun too, obviously thinners would need to be added. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No this is for brush application only.
Roger Perkins on 2022-08-26 20:24:25 | Question:
I want to use this to hand paint a moped I am restoring. If I do not get a good cover and finish with the first coat can I re-coat, and is there a maximum number of times that it can be applied? Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, the HMG Coach Enamel can be recoated after 24 Hours, we do not recommend more than two coats or wrinkling can occur.
Gary H on 2022-01-31 21:42:28 | Question:
Hi, would this be suitable for a 7.5t HORSEBOX paint job? Thinking about rollering as I don’t have any experience in spraying something so big? Cheers Gary |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, assuming the horse box is previously painted, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be used. It is recommended to apply HMG Synthetic High Opacity Undercoat prior to application. If there are any bare steel areas, these should be primed with HMG Synthetic BDX Primer.
john mensforth on 2021-11-20 17:24:02 | Question:
I'm hand painting a vespa scooter with hmg coach enamel. if I don't get a perfect finish can I smooth it down and buff/polish to a new gloss finish? If so any recommendations on grit papers and rubbing compound? Thanks John |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint is not suitable to be flatted and polished as you would with an automotive grade paint option, if attempted it must be fully cured and we would recommend to try it on a small area first.
