Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Primer
This high-performance metal primer is designed for industrial and professional use, offering strong anti-corrosive protection for iron, steel, and aluminium surfaces. Its robust adhesion makes it ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, especially in coastal areas where metals are more prone to corrosion.
Recommended applications include fire escapes, metal gates, metal garage doors, and aluminium surfaces. This primer is also suitable for structures that combine wood and metal, providing an even, durable base for various topcoats.
Surface Preparation and Application
For optimal results, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease or other contaminants. For bare steel, blast cleaning to SA 2½ is recommended for the best adhesion. If blast cleaning is impractical, mechanical cleaning should be employed.
- Application is recommended via brush, roller, or airless spray for an even finish.
- Ensure a minimum overcoating time of 12 hours between layers or before applying a topcoat.
- Avoid applying in conditions of high humidity or temperatures below the dew point, as these can affect drying time and adhesion.
Limitations and Restrictions
This product should not be used in conjunction with rapid-dry products or in environments with continuous water immersion. Additionally, it is not recommended for surfaces with high chemical exposure unless a specific topcoat is applied to provide enhanced protection.
Recommended Topcoats
For a durable finish, follow this primer with a suitable topcoat, such as Coo-Var’s gloss or satin finishes. Always refer to the downloadable data sheet for a complete list of recommended topcoats and other compatible products.
Health and Safety
Ensure proper ventilation during application and drying. This product contains Hydrocarbons (C9-C11) and is classified as a Category 3 flammable liquid. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, and always wear protective gloves and clothing when handling the product.
