Uses

Designed for use on stationary concrete, masonry, metal and wood surfaces. For interior applications over concrete, masonry, tile, wood and drywall.

Coverage

Varies with substrate conditions and application method/thickness. Typical coverage range:

  • 15 – 20 sq. ft. / G (3.78L)

Application Tools

Rubber Coat is generally applied using a roller, paint brush or hydraulic piston sprayer.

Surface Preparation

Surface must be clean and dry, stable and free from spalling, efflorescence, dust, dirt, oils, surface flaking, poorly bonded or glossy paint, sealers, salts and other contaminates which may affect adhesion and product performance.

  • New concrete: must be allowed a minimum of 30 days cure time prior to application of Rubber Coat
  • New masonry surfaces: should be allowed to cure a minimum of 48 hours prior to application. Exterior surfaces should be power washed using at least 1500 psi to clear any surface contaminates.
  • For interior concrete surfaces: scrub with a TSP (trisodium phosphate).
  • For wood floor surfaces: Vacuum thoroughly and wipe clean.

Mixing

Contents generally do not need to be stirred prior to application.

Rubber Coat Application

Ambient temperatures should not be less than 5º C, and should not exceed 35º C during application and for a continuous period of at least 24 hours after application. Avoid hot, direct sunlight. Do not apply over coal tar, avoid solvents and solvent type adhesives.

Cure Time

At 25°C and 50% relative humidity, Rubber Coat fully cures in 24 – 48 hrs. Curing time increases with thickness, colder temperatures or higher humidity so environmental conditions must be considered before application.

Clean Up

Equipment can be cleaned with soap and water prior to cure of material. Baby oil helps remove cured product off hands.

Common Errors

Applying product too thick - May cause cracking and skinning over uncured product.

Inadequate surface preparation – May cause adhesion issues.

Applying over saturated materials – May cause blisters from water vapours.

More product can always be applied on itself. Better to do more coats to build thickness then 1 thick coat.

Tips

Wear disposable gloves to help with clean up.

Cover or leave brush in pail to avoid air curing the product if you want to use again.

questions Andy Watts on 2024-09-05 12:35:48
Question:

Would this product be suitable to paint onto the inside of Aluminium box gutter ? The box gutters are new aluminium that have been cleared together externally and my client wants an EDPM surface applied to the inside covering the joints ?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the aluminium is clean, dry, sound, lightly abraded and prepared as detailed in the technical datasheet, this product should be suitable for application to aluminium gutters to leave a waterproof membrane finish.

When applying the self-adhesive EPDM, we'd recommend to test for compatibility and adhesion with this product prior to full application.

Question:

Hi there can you advise if this is safe for fish ponds and if it will adhere to a butyl liner Thanks

This product is fine to use in ponds, however doesn't adhere to pond liner.

We would advise to wait at least 48 hours after applying before refilling the pond, as this could harm any fish otherwise.

questions David Quirk on 2023-04-06 12:25:39
Question:

Hi I have a set of steps that run down the side of my property that have been previously coated with a GRP membrane. This has failed somewhere on the flight and has led to water getting into an adjacent structure ( masonry ) that abuts the steps. Looking for a product that can be paint or roller applied over the GRP and up the face on the adjacent wall ( GRP has been dressed up this also 150mm ) which is suitable for foot traffic and could possible be sanded also for additional non slip properties. Needs to look good also :-)

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately this product would not be suitable, please can you provide more information and pictures of the area in question to [email protected]

questions steve allen on 2023-03-29 13:45:22
Question:

hi i have metal steel container and the roof is leaking in places, would this product be suitable? many thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

While this product can be applied to clean, dry, sound metal surfaces, it will not bridge cracks or gaps and should not be applied to rust.

Assuming the area leaking has any rust removed, and gaps or holes are less than 2mm, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet you could consider Rust-Oleum Mathys Fillcoat Fibres.

questions Eric Caverhill on 2023-03-21 09:34:03
Question:

To stop corrosion I want to paint the inside of a new cor-ten steel water feature reservoir, that will be filled with water.. Can I use this product ? iIf so what surface preparation is needed before using?.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

For this application to a cor-ten steel water feature, assuming it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend two coats of Teamac Metaclor Underwater Primer followed by two coats of Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint.

Blast cleaning to SA 2½ is recommended. If blast cleaning is impractical, mechanical cleaning should be employed but hand cleaning does not clean the steel to the required degree.

This can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a gloss finish.

Can this be used on a flat felt roof especially if it is dry and otherwise sound?

This is an effective, general purpose roof coating that is resistant to water almost immediately after application, therefore ideally suited for winter use.

Question:

Hi Would this product be suitable to coat a galvanised steel drum? Also, is it harmful to fish? Thanks Michael

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the drum is to be used as a fish tank no this would not be suitable.

Assuming the galvanised drum is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend the barrel is first prepared with Teamac Mordant Solution (T Wash), Teamac Metaclor Antifouling Primer is applied followed by 2 coats of Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint for this application.

Once cured it will not be harmful to fish.

questions George Milton on 2021-08-24 12:07:31
Question:

Can this be applied to the sides of a manhole made of brick that is partially filled with water when in use ?. The brickwork is solid but has started to crumble in a few places. I intend to empty and then let dry first. If this product is not suitable do you have any others. Thanks George

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

We would recommend using a chlorinated rubber for this application as it would be suitable for both above and below the water line. Acid etching would be recommended to prepare the surface, a diluted coat of Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber would be applied before another undiluted coat.
