Features & Benefits

  • Removes the dusty layer (laitance) on new floors
  • Provides a key for future coatings on smooth concrete
  • Excellent alternative to mechanical surface prep
  • Reduces alkalinity of new concrete to ensure a great bond
  • Colour changing formula indicates neutralisation

Surface Preparation

  • Etch and Clean is itself a preparation product to be used when preparing a floor for further coating
  • It will remove surface laitance and eradicate the dusty surface that can be present on concrete surfaces which prevents paint from adhering to the substrate
  • Etch and Clean also keys a surface, enhancing its porosity and allowing paint to penetrate as it cures or dries to ensure it sticks
  • When the Etch and Clean is applied correctly it will leave concrete looking much whiter which will indicate it is ready for a future coating

Application

  • Pour Resin Technologies Etch and Clean into a plastic watering can fitted with a plastic rose and then apply it evenly to an area of 15-20m²
  • The solution will froth as it hits concrete but do not be alarmed by this, the acid base of Etch and Clean is reacting with alkaline concrete and biting into the surface to lightly corrode it and provide the key future coatings need while removing impurities
  • Scrub Etch and Clean across the surface using a stiff broom or scrubbing machine
  • When the frothing stops you should notice that the solution has changed colour, going from a clear liquid to a yellow one
  • This indicates that the neutralisation reaction has occurred successfully
  • IT IS VITAL that the residue left on your floor is cleaned, scrubbed and flushed off the surface with clean water before the etched surface dries. This is because any remaining acidity from the solution will severely impact a subsequent coating and cause it to lift and cure incorrectly
  • Once the surface has dried from the water flush, it is acceptable to coat it with your paint of choice
  • For more information please see the Data Sheets in the 'Data Sheets' tab, or please contact our Technical Department on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected]

Limitations

  • Do not apply to sand and cement screeds or onto self-levelling compounds
  • This product is for bare concrete only, do not apply to coated concrete or as a way to remove previous coatings
  • If the Etcher does not react, the surface is sealed and should be abraded instead
  • You must check if your concrete is too smooth and dense for any liquid to penetrate. If it is, paint or coatings will not adhere correctly
  • Do not apply on new concrete
