Resin bound rubber granule surfacing for pedestrian traffic. It is used to create flexible seamless surfaces which absorb sound and impact.
- SuDS compliant - highly permeable, UV stable non-yellowing resin
- Soft and safe underfoot; slip resistant, absorbs impact and noise
- Suitable for pool surrounds and other leisure applications
- Application from 15mm
- Designed for foot traffic. Vehicle traffic, heavy impact, high point loading and shear, will damage the surface and may result in failure
- Installed by approved contractors
- Highly decorative with 19 attractive colours to choose from
- Must only be applied by specialist applicators. Do not apply or allow it to be applied by contractors who do not possess the necessary skills and experience
Please note that all efforts have been made to get colour swatches as close to the finished items as possible but due to limitation in the printing process accuracy is not guaranteed
Resin bound rubber granule surfacing for pedestrian trafficked surfaces.
The open matrix allows water to drain through to the base, reducing water ponding and when used outside, potentially allowing water to flow to natural water courses. A solid edging created from materials such as brick, stone, timber, or steel should be installed as necessary to protect edges.
The system must be laid onto a sound stable and solid base such as concrete or asphalt concrete laid to falls on MoT type 1 aggregate, or onto pervious concrete or asphalt concrete on MoT type 3 aggregate for pervious construction.
RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround resin comprises a two component UV light stable polyurethane resin and a range of selected rubber granules. The design of this resin bound granule system provides a surface which is attractive, safe underfoot, and highly porous.
It’s porosity reduces surface ponding of rain and water run-off from surrounding areas, allowing water to drain to natural watercourses or man made drainage systems. Problems associated with freeze / thaw cycle degradation are also reduced. This is in line with the requirements of Sustainable Drainage Systems Regulations (SuDS).

Resin and Rubber Granules
RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround is UV resistant, it will not yellow on exposure to UV light. This is a more attractive option than other types of resin which can yellow and dramatically alter the appearance of the finished surface.
The performance and appearance of the finished surface is partly dependent on the grade of rubber granule. The RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround blends have been designed to achieve strength, resilience, porosity and decoration.
Blended granules can be supplied pre-bagged or can be blended on site by the contractor following the guide mixes issued by Ronacrete. For more information, contact our Technical Department on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected]
The appearance of samples and of materials supplied by Ronacrete are based on the colour, shade and grading of individual rubber granules supplied to Ronacrete by its suppliers. The appearance may vary from batch to batch.
All RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround rubber granule blends have been tested for slip resistance in accordance with BS 8204 Part 6. All blends achieved ’low potential for slip’ in both wet and dry conditions.
RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround Resin is rapid setting and rapid curing. It’s pot life and working time is affected by temperature including material, air and substrate temperature. At temperatures above 25°C the pot life and working time may be insufficient to allow its proper application.
Maintenance
It is possible to repair localised damage by cutting out and replacing, ideally using the same blend as originally supplied. Ageing and weathering of the original may prevent an invisible repair. “Picking out” of some rubber granules is possible but is likely to be minimal and localised. Any major loss of rubber granules should be reported.
Base and Sub-Base Requirements
Only apply to a suitable substrate which is capable of supporting, restraining and bearing the weight of the traffic load. The best substrate is a well designed and constructed concrete or asphalt concrete on compacted aggregate. Application to other surfaces may result in failure. If you are unsure of the substrate and its suitability to receive RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround, do not proceed.
RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround is a thin layer of 15mm minimum thickness or more. It may therefore mirror and reflect any surface unevenness. Substrates should therefore be levelled or smoothed prior to application to avoid this. The substrate must be completely dry and free from any contamination for example, grease or oil.
Construction for Pedestrian Traffic
From base upwards, construction is typically 150mm of well compacted MoT Type 1 aggregate sub-base, followed by 60mm of 14mm close graded asphalt concrete, laid to a minimum fall of 1% to allow for water run-off.
The surface must be smooth and flat. Alternatively, for pervious construction apply to sound well constructed sub-base and base typically 150mm of well compacted MoT Type 3 aggregate sub-base, followed by 60mm of 14mm open graded asphalt concrete or 100mm of no fines concrete, all laid on geotextile membrane.
The base should be sound, clean and dry. New asphalt concrete surfaces must be allowed to cool and gain strength for not less than 24 hours at 20°C.
Mix Design and Coverage
- RonaDeck Soft Feel Pool Surround Resin: 10kg
- Rubber Granules: 50kg
- Coverage per 60kg mix:
- 3.80m² @ 15mm (approx)
- 2.85m² @ 20mm (approx)
Coverage is theoretical and will vary when applied to undulating surfaces and according to compaction. This can also vary from batch to batch. Coverage rates can be assessed by practical trials on representative areas of structure and these are recommended in all situations.
Instructions for Use
- Only use clean, dried and dust free, rubber granules which are suitable for this use
- Ensure that the mixing station is fully waterproof when rain is expected, discontinue mixing when fog or mist are anticipated. Only apply to a sound base
- Place 50kg of rubber granules into a clean, dry, forced action mixer Baron M200 or similar, the mixer capacity must be no less than 120 litres
- Scrape all of the contents of Part B in to Part A and mix immediately with a slow speed drill (≤ 450RPM) and MR2 paddle mixer attachment for 2 minutes. Overmixing will increase heat generation and reduce working time
- Immediately add the mixed resin to the granules in the mixer. Mix the granules and resin together until all the aggregate is evenly coated with resin. Mix for approximately 3-4 minutes and avoid overmixing
- Discharge the mix onto the prepared surface, level and smooth. Excessive compaction will reduce permeability
- Finish the surface with a suitable float and ensure that the surface is completely flat. Avoid excessive use of the float as this may cause the surface to be picked up. Protruding rubber granules will tear and damage the system. RonaDeck Low VOC Tool Cleaner/ Trowel Finishing Aid should be used if required, the use of white spirit is not acceptable
- Allow to cure. At 20°C protect against rain damage for 1 - 2 hours (see Rain During Application) and open to traffic after 24 hours (at 20°C)
Working Temperatures
Work should therefore not proceed when product, air or substrate temperature exceed 25°C. The temperature of concrete and macadam will generally be higher than the air temperature. The temperature of the substrate must therefore be measured and monitored during application and work should stop when temperature is above 25°C.
At low temperatures the resin will not flow sufficiently to achieve a smooth finish and work should not proceed when air, material or substrate temperature is below 5oC. The surface must not be trafficked until it has gained sufficient strength.
Rain During Application
Application during rain or when rain is anticipated during the cure period is not recommended.
Light rain on the surface of the system is unlikely to affect the surface but may affect the bond between granules, reducing the strength of the system.
Note that application to a damp substrate will reduce bond strength. Unmixed granules must be kept dry at all times Care must be taken to keep the mixing station dry, thus avoiding entrapment of moisture between aggregate and resin.
