Coverage
- A 10m² pack has sufficient Binder and Aggregate to treat up to 10m² of correctly prepared surface providing an approximate system thickness of 3 – 4mm
Surface Preparation
Concrete:
- Concrete surfaces shall be sound, clean, and free from standing water, laitance oil, grease and other contaminants
- Grinding or grit blasting are suitable mechanical means of removing laitance and contaminants and providing a profiled substrate
Tarmac:
- New tarmac must be allowed to weather until all residual oils have been oxidised or been removed.
- Thoroughly wash to remove contaminants and allow to dry
Asphalt:
- Wash thoroughly to remove all contaminants and allow to dry
Priming:
- Priming is not usually required
Mixing (Binder):
- Mix equal volumes of base and curing agent
- Thoroughly mix by slow speed mechanical stirrer (drill plus paddle attachment) until a uniform consistency has been achieved
Mixing Ratio:
- By Volume - 1 Base : 1 Curing Agent
- By Weight - 100 Base : 100 Curing Agent
Application
- Apply the mixed binder resin by roller, serrated trowel, or squeegee at a nominal rate of 0.5-3mm (the application rate will depend on the size of aggregate to be broadcast)
- Whilst the binder resin remains wet, broadcast the selected aggregate to achieve a full 'blinding' i.e. leave no resin visible
- The following day thoroughly sweep off any excess aggregate using a stiff bristled broom
Cleaning
- Clean equipment with 109 Tool Cleaner prior to curing of the coating
Curing
- Allow the finished system to cure for a minimum of 24 hours @ 20°C prior to foot traffic, and 48 hours @ 20°C prior to vehicular traffic
Limitations
- Do not apply to wet or uncured concrete surfaces
- Do not apply at temperatures of 3°C or less
- Do not apply to new, un-weathered tarmac or asphalt surfaces
Storage & Shelf Life
- Store in dry conditions, out of direct sunlight, at temperatures between 10°C and 25°C
- Do not expose to freezing conditions
- 506 Anti Slip Dressing has a minimum shelf life of 12 months when stored in original, unopened containers in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
Health & Safety
- Avoid contact of the material with skin and eyes
- Wear gloves and goggles
- Wash off splashes immediately with soap and water
- Any eye contamination must be rapidly irrigated with copious amounts of clean water, and immediate medical attention sought
- Please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for additional information

Questions
Question about the product
Tony on 2023-01-22 12:02:30 | Question:
Can this be used on a concrete ramp/slope for a driveway entrance |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the concrete driveway is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this product could be used. Please note this product is for professional use only.
Eleanor Gilbert on 2021-08-11 13:34:17 | Question:
We have a concrete yard which for drainage purposes has some very gently sloping areas. Our dogs use the yard. Is the coating very rough and scratchy? Does the product give off harmful emissions in hot weather, for example? In order to clean where our dogs use the yard for business we use hot water and sometimes bleach on tough dirty spots. Does the product withstand hot water and bleach? If not, what other cleaning methods could be used? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product provides an anti-slip surface but is not very rough, it has the appearance of a loose aggregate. This is a low odour product during application and will not produxce odours once cured. It also has good chemical resistance.
Jill on 2019-11-25 13:08:27 | Question:
Will this product level out minor rippling on a concrete surface and cover construction joints in the site cast concrete ground? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
506 Anti Slip Dressing is a thick system so it should mask minor finishing marks in concrete. Covering construction joints shouldn’t be a problem either as the material has a good amount of flexibility. That being said, if there is considerable movement along the joints this may cause cracks to appear in the surface.
Ian on 2019-09-06 11:48:39 | Question:
What thickness is recommended ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
10m² packs include 15kg of binder resin with hardener which must not be spread further than 10m² and 50kg of 1-3mm Chinese Bauxite Aggregate to broadcast over the wet resin.
claire yakoob on 2019-06-01 10:00:01 | Question:
Can this product be used to cover vertical and horizontal steps? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is not suitable for vertical surfaces, only level, horizontal ones.
John Ridley on 2019-05-08 10:05:03 | Question:
506 Anti Slip Dressing What's it made of? How do you stick it onto the tarmac? Can it be cut easily? How long do you expect to last? Many thanks John |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
506 Anti-Slip Dressing is a seamless bonded aggregate system with high wear and slip resistance. Each pack comprises a flexible binder suitable for bonding the loose Quartz or Stone decorative aggregates to concrete, tarmac/asphalt and sufficient aggregate. New tarmac must be allowed to weather until all residual oils have been oxidized or been removed. Thoroughly wash to remove contaminants and allow to dry. Apply the mixed Binder Resin by roller, serrated trowel, or squeegee at the required spreading rate. Whilst the Binder Resin remains wet, broadcast the selected aggregate to achieve a full 'blinding' i.e. leave no resin visible. The following day thoroughly sweep off any excess aggregate using a stiff bristled broom.
Bryn Davies on 2017-11-23 12:34:14 | Question:
Please can you provide me with the 'R' Rating value for this product
Thanks
Bryn |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The product hasn't been tested to determine its R value as we do not offer the product for any thermal conductivity or insulating properties.
