Type C waterproofing is defined in BS 8102:2022 as ‘drained protection’. This is achieved by the incorporation of a drained cavity within the below ground structure.

The walls and floor must provide enough primary resistance to water ingress to ensure the cavity only accepts a controlled amount of water or dampness. Water is collected in the cavity, between the external wall/floor and an internal lining (cavity membranes), and diverted to a suitable drainage point.

Storage and Handling

Visqueen Cavity Membrane System Components should be stored upright, under cover in a dry clean environment and in their original packaging.

Care should be taken when handling the system components in line with current manual handling regulations.

Preparation

Prior to application of Visqueen CM8 Membrane or Visqueen CM20 Membrane, all concrete surfaces must be sealed with Visqueen CM Anti-Lime Sealer (see product datasheet for further guidance).

Cavity Drain Components

Visqueen CD Water Channel is a 2m length of drainage channel which should be fitted around the periphery of an internal floor at the vulnerable wall/floor junction and where necessary across the floor area to link the perimeter drainage channel to the sump. Any water entering the building through walls or curved soffits is controlled behind the wall membrane and enters the water channel through the pre-drilled 19mm holes before being diverted to the sump and mechanical pump, or natural drainage point. The water channel is supplied with or without an upstand. The water channel with upstand is used at the wall/floor junction. The water channel without upstands is used as a cross-floor water channel.

Visqueen CD Universal Channel is a section of water channel without upstand and with a 100mm bottom outlet that fits into ‘pop- up’ pipework running through or under the floor slab, ensuring that water runs as quickly as possible directly to a sump. Also includes an inspection/cleaning/maintenance port which can be cut down to suit floor finishes. Can be used with both types of Visqueen CD Water Channel.

Visqueen CD Jointing Section is a push fit unit that connects two sections of a water channel.

Visqueen CD Stop End is a push fit end cap for the water channel that restricts the flow of water from the end of the water channel.

Visqueen CD Swept Corner is a push fit unit that connects two sections of water channel at a corner junction.

Visqueen CD T Piece is a push fit unit that connects three sections of water channel at a three way T junction.

Visqueen CD Jetting Eye is a section of water channel with upstand and includes an inspection/cleaning/maintenance port. The unit is typically installed at 10-12m intervals along runs of water channel and adjacent to corners and changes of direction.

Visqueen CD 50mm Outlet is a push fit end cap for the water channel that allows the water channel to connect to a 50mm diameter ABS waste pipe.

Usable Temperature Range

It is recommended that the Visqueen Cavity Membrane System Component tapes should be installed above 5°C.

Additional Information

In accordance with BS 8102:2022, Type C drain protection waterproofing systems should be maintained. The service period, usually every six to twelve months, should be agreed at the outset with the installing contractor or a specialist pump servicing company.
