This two-pack product acts as both a primer and topcoat, providing superior adhesion and durability on various substrates. Ideal for industrial and professional use, it ensures long-lasting protection and an attractive finish.
Application and Uses
This product is formulated to adhere to numerous surfaces, making it a great choice for wood, metal, MDF, masonry, tiles, most rigid plastics, and old concrete. Its quick-drying properties allow for efficient application, reducing downtime. Note that it should not be used on surfaces with poor adhesion or those prone to moisture exposure without proper preparation.
- Direct application without the need for a separate primer.
- Available in multiple finishes: gloss, satin, and matt.
- Brush and roller application recommended for best results.
- For metal structures in aggressive environments, pair with Rust-Oleum CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380.
Preparation and Application Conditions
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants. Remove rust, mill scale, and loose coatings through scraping or sanding. Test adhesion on old coatings before full application. For new galvanized, zinc, and aluminum surfaces, use CombiPrimer 3302 for optimal results. Application should occur in temperatures between 5° and 35°C with humidity below 85%.
- Homogenize coating materials thoroughly before use.
- Use natural bristle brushes or short nap rollers for application.
- Thinning is generally not required.
Safety and Environmental Information
CombiColor Multi-Surface contains no lead or chromates, making it safer for use and disposal. However, it is classified as a flammable liquid and should be stored and handled with care. Ensure good ventilation during application and wear appropriate protective equipment to avoid inhalation and skin contact.

Questions
Question about the product
David Dutton on 2023-10-01 19:23:42 | Question:
Would CombiColor be effective as a damp resistant finish on insulation board? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming application is externally, this product would be regarded as damp-resistant, assuming it has been applied in accordance with the technical data sheet to a clean, dry, sound prepared substrate. If you could advise what the full exposure will be, we can advise if this is a suitable product, please e-mail [email protected].
Jenny llewellyn on 2023-09-05 23:14:11 | Question:
Hello, would this be suitable to paint the outside of a horse trailer? It's wooden . Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the horse trailer is bare, clean, dry and sound and prepared in accordance with the technical data sheet, this product would be suitable for this application. However, please bear in mind it's not been tested to determine the suitability in close proximity with animals, as it's not an intended use.
Dan on 2023-04-06 09:52:36 | Question:
Hi I am looking at painting some fiberglass that has been gel coated could I use this or do you have another product suitable in RAL 1014 Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied to prepared gelcoat, if the area to be painted is on a boat, it would not be suitable for use in the splash zone or below the waterline.
Kenny on 2022-11-20 10:45:10 | Question:
Hi can this be used to paint a fibreglass roof. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no, this is not suitable for application to a roof.
Denis Robertson on 2022-07-08 16:58:31 | Question:
Can I use this paint on new terracotta pots? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the terracotta pots are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be used.
Nick on 2022-04-11 12:53:14 | Question:
I'm looking to paint a mural on a shop shutter, can I use Combi Colour direct onto metallic shop security shutters? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface can be applied on many different substrates like wood, metal*, uPVC, mdf, masonry, tiles, most plastics, old concrete and more. We advise to do a small adhesion test prior to the application of the full surface. CombiColor Multi-Surface is intended for brush and roller application. *For metal structures in a more aggressive industrial environment, Rust-Oleum advise CombiColor Original in combination with Rust-Oleum CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380.
Jeetal on 2022-04-01 08:38:39 | Question:

Mark P on 2021-12-20 12:14:52 | Question:
I have a Mercedes Sprinter LWB van and want to change colour from white to black. What preparation products and final paint products would you recommend? I want to use a roller and paint brush rather than spray gun Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Although it is not what Rust-Oleum CombiColor was primarily designed for it is used for this type of application regularly. Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original has been used for this application as it has more corrosion protection. You will find numerous videos on YouTube of people doing similar projects by brush and roller. On bare ferrous metals Rust-Oleum 3369/3380 CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion is always recommended to be used before application of the CombiColor. This is not designed to be overpainted with another product after application.
Mark T on 2021-10-31 11:34:00 | Question:
Hi - would this paint be suitable to overpaint a light to medium duty rubber floor surface or could you recommend a paint that would be please? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately no this is not suitable for this application. Smartkote Protectakote UVR Smooth can be applied to many rubber substrates assuming they are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technicasl data sheet. The rubber must be cleaned with Xylene, we would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

Marilyn on 2020-06-27 09:10:17 | Question:

Nic on 2020-06-18 07:00:41 | Question:

I want to paint a Luton van, that has aluminium trim, fibreglass body and steel cab. Will Combicolor work on all of that? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the substrates are clean, dry and sound, the aluminium trim is primed with Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion we can recommend Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface for this application. For added corrosion protection we advise to prime the steel areas with Rust-Oleum 3369/3380 CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion.
Douglas Janes on 2020-05-29 10:25:57 | Question:
Can brushes be cleaned in white spirit or do you need to use a special solvent? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We can recommend Rust-Oleum Thinner 160.
Ben on 2020-05-18 19:10:52 | Question:
Hi, Can this product be used to paint a front door, that is metal skinned, with plastic trim around the window? Thank you! |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is suitable for application to most metals and plastics assuming they are clean, dry and free from anything that can effect adhesion. We would recommend completing an adhesion test on a small area prior to application. If the metal is bare stainless steel or aluminium we would recommend the use of Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion first.
Catherine on 2020-05-04 20:17:10 | Question:
Hi, can this paint be used on front doors? And if so can I paint lighter shades straight on top of darker paint? It will be sanded down first of course. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the door is sound, dry and abraded, previously painted timber or aged UPVC this product can be used to paint a door. Lighter shades can be painted on top of darker paint but may require more coats to cover.
Ben E on 2020-04-30 19:59:42 | Question:
Hi, Can I use Combi Color Multi Surface for outdoor concrete steps? Or would you advise another more suitable product? Thanks! |

This product will adhere to concrete but we would not advise this for use on steps. For this application we can recommend Rust-Oleum 7100NS Anti-Slip Floor Coating assuming the concrete is aged, clean, dry and sound.
Chris adam on 2020-04-20 15:07:42 | Question:
Can this paint be used on an electric radiator? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The temperature limit for this paint is 80°c. As we don’t know what actual surface temperature the heater will get up to we can’t say for sure if the paint will be OK on any particular heater, it could depend on the model, type etc. You will need to check with the manufacturer to find out what the surface temperature of their particular heater will get to during use. If it exceeds 80°c you could consider Blackfriar Quick Drying Radiator Paint this will take temperatures up to 150°C and is available in a white semi-gloss finish.
Jody farnks on 2020-04-16 02:04:22 | Question:

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface would be ideal for this application. Download the product data sheet from the 'Attachments' tab on the product page for details on preparation, application, etc.

Hi, I'm looking to paint a galvanised shed. Is this product suitable for direct application to the bare galvanised surface? Thanks, Mark. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Galvanised steel would need priming initially with Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion
Gina on 2019-11-25 17:46:59 | Question:
I'm looking to paint the interior side of my composite door can I use this paint for that, also would I need to prep the door if I can Many thanks Gina |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, first remove oil, grease and all other surface contaminations by cleaning in combination with appropriate detergents (e.g. Rust-Oleum Pre-Paint Cleaner). Remove all loose coatings by scraping, wire brushing or sanding. Sand intact coatings to roughen the surface slightly. Test before application the compatibility with the old coating. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

We want to coat a glass top, patio furniture table so it becomes opaque. Would this or any other of your products be suitable? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface is suitable to be applied to glass but wouldn't be suitable for a table top, it may work better to coat the underneath of the table top so the colour shows through but the glass top can still take the wear and tear.
John James on 2019-08-25 12:06:29 | Question:
Can Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface be supplied as a satin finish? If not would it be possible for me to add a solvent based matting solution? |

We wouldn't recommend adding any matting agents into this product, however if none of the above colours meet your requirements then our Techincal Team may be able to recommend an alternative product in a satin finish for your use - 0113 2455450 (option 2) or email you project details to [email protected]
Tiaan on 2019-05-02 18:14:24 | Question:
Hello, I am looking to purchase: Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface Reference 7300MS . This will be applied to old cast iron window frames, which require a repaint. Does this have low VOC? I assume I do not need to buy anything else from the instructions, by sanding down and cleaning after. Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
The data sheet for Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface advises: 'For metal structures in a more aggressive industrial environment we advise CombiColor Original in combination with Rust-Oleum CombiPrimer Anti-Corrosion 3369/3380.' For details of VOC levels on all products, these can be found in the product data sheets available to download from the 'Attachments' tab on each product page.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, we are able to mix this to nearly all RAL colours now (RAL 8011 Nut Brown is no problem), website will be updated soon to reflect this but in the meantime you can order via phone on 0113 2455450 (option 1).
B Hamilton on 2019-02-21 14:40:41 | Question:
Do you have a paint that would paint a static caravan it's not the metal type it's like cladding. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Not quite sure of the surface you're trying to paint here but Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface would be a good place to start. Carry out a test area if unsure to ensure adhesion, appearance, etc.
Tracey on 2019-02-20 17:16:11 | Question:
Is the rust oleum multi surface be ok to paint tiles in a shower? |

Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface is OK to be applied to tiles but not in a shower area where it will be in contact with water from the shower.
R Logan-Reid on 2019-02-16 11:03:55 | Question:
Can I use this to recoat Promain multisurface paint applied to my metal gates 5 years ago? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We are not familiar with the specific product you have mentioned but if your gates are metal and need recoating we would suggest the original version of Rust-Oleum CombiColor rather than the Multi-Surface version. Assuming the existing paint is sound and well adhered you should just be able to clean down, lightly sand and apply 2 coats of Rust-Oleum CombiColor in the desired colour and finish.

Rust-Oleum CombiColor Multi-Surface has not been tested for such use. We believe that any paints used for toys or childrens play equipment has to be tested and approved to EN71.
