Description

Vista Lake Clear Casting Epoxy

Vista Lake is a clear, low viscosity, 2-component casting epoxy designed for applications requiring a depth of 25-50mm. With excellent UV stability and self-levelling properties, this epoxy resin is particularly suited for artistic projects such as wood turning, encapsulation, and creating furniture elements. Its easy bubble release mechanism makes it ideal for achieving smooth, clear finishes in a variety of applications.

Applications and Usage

Recommended for encapsulation, decorative casting, and small to medium woodwork projects, Vista Lake performs well when used on wood, in furniture making, or for small encapsulations such as pen blanks. This epoxy is unsuitable for large-scale projects or deep pours beyond 50mm due to overheating risks. Users are encouraged to test small quantities first to ensure compatibility with their specific project.

Mixing and Application Instructions

The mixing ratio for Vista Lake is 2:1 by volume (or 100:45 by weight). Stir thoroughly for at least three minutes, ideally transferring to a second cup for final mixing to avoid unmixed hardener, which could compromise the final finish. Once combined, the mixture begins its curing reaction, so avoid leaving it in the mixing cup too long, as this can accelerate the curing process and lead to defects such as bubbles or distortions.

Temperature and Curing Time

Curing times vary depending on ambient temperature and volume of epoxy used. Under normal conditions, the resin is touch-dry in 24 hours and can be de-moulded within 48 hours at 20°C. For faster curing in cooler environments, consider using a heat mat to reduce curing time by up to 75%.

Working in Layers for Greater Depth

To achieve thicker castings, Vista Lake can be layered. Each layer should be applied once the previous layer has reached a tacky or gelled state to ensure chemical bonding. Allowing full curing between layers requires mechanical surface preparation to ensure the next layer adheres well.

Customising Colours

Vista Lake epoxy can be customised with Vista Colour Pigments, which are available in a range of opaque and translucent colours. By adding these pigments, users can achieve everything from subtle, clear tints to intense solid colours.

Limitations and Precautions

This product is unsuitable for very thin pours or deep mass casting exceeding 50mm. Avoid pouring widths greater than 75mm, as this can lead to overheating and surface defects. It is not recommended to use Vista Lake in confined or poorly ventilated spaces, and users should ensure they follow all guidelines provided in the data sheet to prevent adverse effects.

Health and Safety

UN Numbers: Part A - UN3082; Part B - UN2735. Vista Lake contains chemicals that may cause skin and eye irritation, as well as allergic reactions in some individuals. Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended during handling. This epoxy product is harmful to aquatic life and should be disposed of responsibly. Always consult the Safety Data Sheet for detailed information and further safety measures.
