Vista Ocean Epoxy Art Resin
Vista Ocean is a clear, low-viscosity, 2-component epoxy resin, designed for artistic encapsulations and intricate mouldings. With excellent UV stability, it ensures long-lasting clarity, especially useful in flower encapsulations and decorative displays. Its composition enables reliable, bubble-free casting, even in deeper applications up to 75mm under controlled volumes. Food-safe certification makes it suitable for items in contact with food-based substances like fruit and yoghurt.
Applications and Use Cases
Designed for professional use, this epoxy is ideal for flower preservation, river boards, and small castings, including artistic pieces turned on a lathe. It is particularly effective in projects that require low mass encapsulation. However, it is not recommended for large-scale projects like full-sized river tables due to potential overheating. Always conduct a trial application to ensure compatibility with specific project requirements.
Mixing and Layering Guidelines
The 2:1 mixing ratio ensures optimal results; however, precise measurements by weight (100:45) or by volume (100:50) are necessary. After mixing for at least 3 minutes, a second transfer and mixing step is recommended to avoid unmixed residue. For deeper pours, layer applications are encouraged to achieve greater depths without overheating. Apply additional layers while the previous layer remains tacky for the strongest bond.
Colour Customisation
To enhance creativity, Vista Ocean can be used with Vista Colour Pigments for various translucent or opaque effects. A small amount of pigment will achieve translucent results, while a higher concentration will create an opaque finish. Metallic pigments can be added for a shimmering effect. Always trial to adjust pigment levels for optimal visual outcomes.
Limitations and Restrictions
Not suitable for high-mass or high-depth casting applications. Avoid usage below the recommended 40mm depth to prevent curing defects like amine blush. Users are advised to avoid using this resin in confined spaces and to monitor temperatures to avoid rapid curing or unwanted bubbles. For large projects, Vista Mariana is a better-suited alternative.
Health and Safety
Classified as a Class 8 hazardous material, UN2735. Contains components that may cause skin and eye irritation, and it is toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Recommended use of gloves, goggles, and well-ventilated spaces. For more safety information, refer to the data sheet.
