Questions
Question about the product
Joanna Perry on 2024-03-07 10:36:49 | Question:
Hi I am looking to paint a large outdoor mural onto a smooth aluminium clad building - the aluminium sheeting will have already been painted in Zinseer Allcoat, the mural will all be painted in Zinseer Allcoat exterior satin paint - will this anti graffiti paint be suitable to apply on top of this paint / material? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the previously applied paint is fully cured, clean, dry and sound yes you could consider this product for an anti-graffiti coating. It should be applied in one coat at the rate of 8m² per litre.
Eleanor Owen on 2024-01-23 09:36:08 | Question:
Is this suitable for application onto lacquered oak veneer panels to protect furniture in a public environment and if so does it change the appearance/sheen level? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes assuming the lacquered panels are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be applied. This product has a semi-matt finish. Applying a clear coating can affect the visual appearance of a substrate, we would recommend to test on a small area with the available samples.
Finn on 2023-10-10 15:57:40 | Question:
I'm planning on using spray cans to paint a mural on some metal building shutters. Is this a suitable top coat or will it change the appearance of the mural / wear off when the shutters move up and down? Thanks :) |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product will be suitable for use on this type of applciation. Please note that any paint coating may wear on the joints and where the shutter rolls around the drum.
Caroline on 2023-05-11 15:11:29 | Question:
is it possible to buy a sample of this product to test it first? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes samples of this product are available.
Lucy on 2023-04-30 11:38:28 | Question:
I have a mural to cover, but it's on heavily textured render. If I cover it with Nuguard would graffiti still be removable from the texture? If it doesn't come off Id need to be able to repaint the colours of the mural, and that doesnt look like a possibility with this coating on. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be used on textured render but the texture will make removal of graffiti harder.
Ilona on 2023-04-10 14:10:36 | Question:
Hi, once the product has been applied and is touch dry, can it then be left exposed to wind, rain etc or should it be covered until fully cured? Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would not recommend that the product is covered but it should be kept dry untill fully cured. This product is fully cured in 6 hours at 20°C.
Andrew Devitt on 2023-02-08 10:57:49 | Question:
Can you provide a method statement for the design life of the application and replacement/re-establishment of the anti-graffiti coating when required? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, the manufacturer has responded to you directly.
Paul on 2023-01-29 20:45:40 | Question:
Good Evening, I have got a large white painted stone wall which is part of a listed building. Graffiti has been sprayed all over it. I am a professional decorator, I have applied a coat of zinsser cover stain which has held the graffiti from bleeding through. Next I will apply 2 coats of weather shield masonry paint. Then I will finish coat it in your product. Would the graffiti clean off with soapy water, like you suggest it will if it was graffitied again? Regards Paul Tee 07980863414 |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the recently applied masonry paint is fully cured, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet Hydron Nu-Guard AG could be applied. Once applied most types of graffiti can be removed with warm soapy water.
Brigid on 2021-04-21 16:25:29 | Question:
Can this product be used in temperatures under 10 degrees? I understand that it may increase the curing/drying time. Cheers, Brigid |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, but application should not take place at temperatures below 5°C or when the relative humidity exceeds 85%.
Ash Patel on 2021-04-01 13:59:22 | Question:
Hi, can I paint my new powder coated shop shutters with this NU-GAURD AG CLEAR? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the powder coated shutters are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet this can be applied in one thick coat.
Helen on 2021-03-31 22:13:20 | Question:
Will this product repel water based paints? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product will not repel any paints but once Hydron Nu-guard AG is applied correctly most graffiti can be removed by washing the surface down with water.
Lionel on 2020-06-25 22:22:00 | Question:
Can you tell me which thinners if any I can clean brushes after using this coating please. Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
For cleaning application equipment you will require Bartoline White Spirit.
Peter Smith on 2019-09-13 10:17:16 | Question:
How long do I have to wait before I put another coat on |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
In good drying conditions approximately 4 hours.
Paul on 2019-04-08 13:24:30 | Question:
Hi, I want to buy some of your Hydron Nu-Guard AG (Black) and I would like to use a roller which is the best type of roller to use, sponge (gloss type) or wool (emulsion type) of roller. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would recommend a standard medium pile roller for application of Hydron Nu-Guard AG to ensure the correct thickness of coating is achieved. You can purchase roller sleeves via the following link Roller Sleeves
Greg Semla on 2019-02-07 08:07:57 | Question:
Hi, I have to secure previously painted door, water base and oil base stain. Can I use Nu guard AG Clear for this job? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes this should be fine but we would always advise carrying out a small test area to check for compatibility before applying to the whole area.
Marc Dunn on 2019-01-29 18:58:47 | Question:

Jas Singh on 2019-01-21 23:27:26 | Question:
Hi, I am looking to purchase this product to apply to a newly stained shopfront. What type of finish does this leave? I am looking to retain the natural wood stained finish on the shopfront. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Hydron Nu-Guard AG is available in clear with the option of a semi-matt or gloss finish.
jo on 2019-01-17 00:40:11 | Question:
I would like to use this as a top coat for an art mural painted with exterior gloss. Would this be suitable? I am looking for a glossy tough finish as I have used anti graffiti top coat before which is quite rubbery with a matt finish which would not be suitable for this project as it dulls the colours. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Hydron Nu-Guard AG is available in a gloss finish but it does leave the 'rubbery' feel to the surface as you have explained. A 'hard' feel gloss finish alternative would be Rust-Oleum 4900 Polycoat 2K.
Lisa mahaffey on 2019-01-04 18:16:03 | Question:
Hi, If I have used this product and then some years later want to repaint the wall, will the new paint take ok to the surface? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Further Hydron Nu-Guard AG could be applied without issue and this is also available in colours if required however other paints would not be able to be used due to potential adhesion issues so we would in that instance recommend complete removal of the Hydron Nu-Guard AG if this was required.
jon hawley on 2019-01-03 18:25:05 | Question:
I have a metal painted door that has graffiti on, if i repaint the door and apply this clear coat am i protected? and do i need to use special base coat for the your clear coat to go on to? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Hydron Nu-Guard AG should be ideal for your project, no special paints are required to be used for re-painting your door. Once you have cleaned and re-painted as required, apply the Hydron Nu-Guard AG and once dry any subsequent graffiti attacks can be simply cleaned off with water.
Kate on 2018-12-22 09:03:27 | Question:
Would the Clear Graffiti Guard be suitable for use on Hardwood Gates that have been treated with Danish Oil |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, the Danish Oil would first need to be removed.
Alex on 2018-09-20 07:49:59 | Question:
I want to protect a painted mural on a concrete surface from graffiti attack. Is this suitable for the job? I'm worried it might be to 'gel like', ideally i need something that leaves a very thin looking layer, so the mural can still be seen. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Hydron Nu-Guard AG Clear should be fine for your application, it has been used extensively over murals.
David on 2018-08-27 10:57:18 | Question:
I would like to apply this to a red brick wall. Is the clear version likely to change the appearance/colour of the wall? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Nu-Guard WB Concrete Sealer primes/seals very porous surfaces and prevents the darkening of light substrates prior to the application of Nu-Guard AG.
Jayne parker on 2018-05-24 07:01:21 | Question:
We're doing some art work on large wooden boards in emulsion and acrylic paint. Would this product make them water proof too? Or can you apply over varnish? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, Nu-Guard AG would also waterproof the surface. We always recommend a test patch is done when apply over murals/artwork to ensure compatibility, adhesion and appearance are all satisfactory before coating the whole area.
Cathy Fox on 2018-04-28 09:23:57 | Question:
Is the paint UV-resistant? We need to protect artwork so that it won't fade. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes it is. It will help protect the underlying paint colours from fading but it wont stop timber from ageing.
victoria widdowson on 2018-03-28 16:42:30 | Question:
Would you recommend your anti-graffiti paint be used on surfaces that children play on such as skate ramps? Would it be a safe surface to play on? Can it be used over an anti corrosive primer? many thanks Vic |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Nu-Guard AG would be great for all vertical surfaces not associated with skating on, the product is slippery when wet due to the silicone.
Peter Clements on 2017-03-17 17:50:50 | Question:
I want to paint a storage container that has been vandalised with graffiti. I plan to lightly rub down the surface then apply a coat of Nu-Guard AG in a colour. My question is whether the Nu-Guard alone will cover the existing graffiti and provide a consistently coloured surface (as when using conventional paint) or will the metal require an undercoat? The surface is fairly rust free.
Thanks for your help. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would recommend thoroughly cleaning the container and preparing any areas of rusting before applying a coat of Zinsser Cover Stain to all areas. Choose a colour near to what you wish your final colour to be to aid opacity. Allow the Cover Stain to completely cure before then applying Nu-Guard AG.
