Description

Sherwin-Williams Macropoxy M922M (formerly Epigrip M922M) is designed to withstand the most aggressive environments whilst delivering exceptional protection to steel structures. A high solids epoxy mastic, with excellent anti-corrosive properties, Macropoxy M922M provides an ideal solution for maintenance and new build projects where steelwork is exposed to severe conditions. 

Recommended Use

  • Anti-corrosive protection of blast cleaned steel compatible with cathodic protection.
  • Formulated for high build application by brush, allowing applicators to achieve full specified thickness in a single coat, even on sharp edges and difficult access areas.
  • For application onto hand or mechanically prepared surfaces and/or damp gingered blasted surfaces, giving excellent wetting and adhesion characteristics.
  • Suitable for application onto hot substrates up to 100°C

  • The glass flake particles provide excellent protection. The flakes align within the lm to give barrier protection and physical reinforcement.

  • Independently tested and certi ed to Network Rail speci cations. Provides long term corrosion protection in aggressive C5 environments in accordance with BS EN ISO 12944. Meets Norsok system 7 requirements for blasted steel.

Question: 

Please can you advise the anticipated lifespan of the M922M in a domestic dwelling, protecting the face of a steel column which is partially built into a cavity wall, which is potentially damp. The steelwork will be off-site primed with C400V3 and will receive a brush applied coat of 400 microns M922M to affected surfaces, before being built into the wall. The face of steel will be approx 25mm distance from the inside face of the outer leaf of brickwork (i.e. not in continual contact with outer leaf).

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The manufacturer advised the timescale can only be given as a guide in this instance.

The difficulty is that during the coatings life it should be inspected and maintained but I believe this will not be possible.

Therefore approximately 15 - 25 years
