Preparation
Please ensure substrate is dry and suitable to receive a wooden floor. If in doubt use Sika Primer MB or SikaBond Rapid DPM.
Concrete / cement screed: Must have an open texture, be dry and thoroughly cleaned with industrial vacuum cleaner.
Anhydrite screed / Calcium Sulphate screed: Must be completely dry, ground and thoroughly cleaned with an industrial vacuum cleaner shortly before bonding starts. NOTE: Not to be used in conjunction with damp proof membranes.
Broadcast mastic asphalt: Must be primed with Sika Primer MB or SikaBond Rapid DPM (see local Data Sheets for application instructions).
Glazed ceramic and old ceramic tiles: Degrease, clean with Sika Remover 208 or grind the tile-surface and clean thoroughly with an industrial vacuum cleaner.
Wood / gypsum boards (e.g. chipboards, plywood): Glue / screw the boards to the substructure. They have to be fixed on the substrate. In the case of floating subfloors, please contact our Technical Department.
Unknown substrates: Please contact Rawlins Paints' Technical Support Team on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected] for more information.
SikaBond MS Wood Floor Adhesive can be used without priming on cement floors, anhydrite floors, chip boards, concrete and ceramic tiles, steel access floors, plywood and most common substrates.
For broadcast mastic asphalt, cement floors with an excessive moisture content, as well in case of renovation on old adhesive residues and on structurally weak substrates use Sika Primer MB or SikaBond Rapid DPM (for detailed instructions consult Product Data Sheets).
Minimum screed requirements: 28 days maturing and max 3% moisture content before using this adhesive. For moisture contents at 3.1-7%, use in conjunction with a moisture barrier. Do not use this product above these recommended moisture levels.
Application
METHOD 1 - Bead application
After the preparation of sausage and gun, extrude a triangular shaped bead of adhesive approximately 10 mm high and 8 mm wide at 100-250 mm centres (dependent on wood floor type) on the properly prepared subfloor. Press the wood floor elements firmly in to the adhesive (at right angles with adhesive beads). The elements can then be joined together using a hammer and an impact block. Ensure a perimeter gap of 20-15mm is maintained between walls and flooring.
METHOD 2 - Sika Silent Layer Mat application
Sika Silent Layer Mat application. Roll out the mat so the pre-cut slots are at 90˚ to the direction of the wood flooring. Gun adhesive into the slots ensuring all openings are filled with a triangular bead of adhesive 10mm high by 8mm wide. Place timber onto adhesive and mat. Use a block and mallet to close joints in wood floor as required. Allow to fully cure overnight. Fresh, uncured adhesive remaining on the wood floor surface must be removed immediately with a clean cloth and if necessary cleaned with Sika Remover 208. Test wood floor surfaces for compatibility with Sika Remover 208 before use. The laying instructions of the wood floor manufacturer as well as standard construction rules must be observed. After installation, allow adhesive to fully cure before replacing furniture, normally overnight.
Limitations
- Always check with flooring manufacturer regarding any specific instructions/requirements relating to their flooring before fitting floors
- Do not use over bitumen or substrates that bleed oil or plasticisers
- Do not use, store or allow to cure below +5°C
- For better workability the adhesive temperature must be at least +15°C. For the proper curing of the adhesive sufficient ambient moisture is necessary
Minimum wood sizes:
Length: Must go over at least 3 adhesive beads.
Width: >50mm
Thickness: 12-28mm (must not exceed 28mm).
Wood floors in non insulated areas such as basements, or other areas without a damp proof membrane, can only be installed after the application of Sikafloor EpoCem and Sika Primer MB or SikaBond Rapid DPM to control the moisture. For detailed instructions consult the Product Data Sheets or contact our Technical Department. In case of chemically pre-treated types of wood floors (e.g. ammonia, wood stain, timber preservative) and woods with high oil content, SikaBond MS Wood Floor Adhesive is only to be used after a written recommendation from our Technical Department.
DO NOT USE on PE, PP, TEFLON, and certain plasticised synthetic materials (carry out pre-trials or contact our Technical Department). Some primers can negatively influence the adhesion of SikaBond MS Wood Floor Adhesive (pre-trials recommended).
Coverage
Covers up to 20m2 of wood flooring.
Drying Time
20 mins at 23°C and 50% RH. Floors can be walked on 24 hours after fixing.
Clean Up
Fresh, uncured adhesive remaining on the wood surface must be removed immediately and if necessary cleaned with Sika Remover 208. Test wood floor surfaces for compatibility with Sika Remover 208 before use. Cured adhesive may be removed from prefinished flooring using a suitable plastic scraper and/or pencil eraser.
