Questions
Question about the product
Sarah on 2022-12-10 00:17:02 | Question:
Hi Could I use this on metal that is already powder coated? If so which primer would you recommend? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the powdercoat is a polyester, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we would recommend it is primed first with Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion Primer.
Frank Rinckhout on 2021-02-03 19:09:37 | Question:
I want to spray the engine bars bright red on my motorbike to add a little panache, would this paint be suitable? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the bars are steel, not exposed to temperatures over 100°C, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet it could be used. If the bars are bare steel we can recommend priming with Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2169/2182 Anti-Rust Primer, for other hard to adhere to surfaces such as stainless steel we can recommend Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2102 Adhesion Primer.
Nicola on 2020-05-02 13:46:35 | Question:
Hello - I have removed paint from old shutter hinges and the shutter bar back to cast iron. What would you recommend me to use? Hard hat or universal? Is a primer needed? Is a top coat needed? Thanks Nicola |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming you require something in aerosol form, we would suggest Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2169/2182 Anti-Rust Primer followed by Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat.
Karl on 2019-04-23 19:03:30 | Question:
I have just painted a new hardwood door and frame with zinsser primer, and 2 coats of all coat satin. I dont like the roller finish and wood like to get it smoother. Can i over spray with aerosol. And do you make a satin finish |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Aerosol Topcoats are not designed for this type of decorative application, are not available in satin and would not 'smooth' out brush/roller marks already in the existing paint.
Nick Marshall on 2019-02-20 11:57:51 | Question:
are the high perf topcoats suitable for standard radiators? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoats are heat resistant up to 100°C (dry heat), above 65°C discoloration may occur.
Bob on 2018-10-06 23:59:31 | Question:
Hi, I’m restoring a cider press whose paint has chips and cracks. Is this product food safe? Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat has not been tested for such use, as it is intended primarily as an industrial coating, it has not been submitted for such approval.
Richard Martin on 2018-09-12 12:17:57 | Question:
I have just purchased 10 external security lights which are in black aluminium. I would like to change the colour to match my sandstone walls. Will this paint bond and not peel off the aluminium lights? Will it be ok? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat will bond after thorough degrease / rinse / dry to leave a perfectly clean surface. Then apply Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2102 Adhesion Primer followed by Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat in required shade as per PDS info. No temperature duties above 80°C (slight discolouration may occur at prolonged exposure to temperatures above 40°C).
Jan on 2018-06-29 13:11:02 | Question:
Are the Rust-oleum spray paints suitable for external garage doors? The corrugations make them hard to paint and I though a spray application would be easier and more effective |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Universal All Surface Paint would be better suited to this application.
Hazel on 2016-09-28 13:56:47 | Question:
I have a garden table and two chairs which are a bit rusty so I'm going to sand the metal and then would like to change their colour to your oyster white. Do I need a primer and is your paint finish gloss or Matt? Will it protect from corrosion? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
After preparation of the table and chairs you should prime first with Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2169/2182 Anti-Rust Primer. Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat in RAL 1013 Oyster White is a gloss finish.
Jason Morrissey on 2016-04-09 17:08:15 | Question:
Can I use a clear coat on top of the Hard Hat Top Coat once it is dry ? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, you could use Rust-Oleum Hard Hat 2500 Transparent Protection.
alan oldfield on 2015-06-21 14:05:25 | Question:
Are Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoats acrylic based or synthetic oil based? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat aerosols are based on fast drying, short oil soya alkyd and use lead and chromate free pigments.
Susan on 2015-06-06 05:08:10 | Question:
Hello Can you tell me if Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat would be suitable for a metal curtain pole? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes it would. If the curtain pole is already coated with something then lightly sand, clean and apply Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Topcoat. If the curtain pole is bare metal we would advise using Rust-Oleum 3302 CombiPrimer Adhesion first to ensure good adhesion.
