Preparation & Application
Substrate Preparation
All loose, flaking and unstable material must be identified and then thoroughly removed, all surfaces must be thoroughly washed down with clean cold water to remove all surface dirt and dust. When all surfaces are clean, sound, wind dry, dust free and free from all surface contaminants, decoration using Keim Mineral Paints may proceed. Highly absorbent or friable substrates should be treated with Keim Soldalit Fixativ. A base coat of Keim Soldalit Grob is recommended for substrates which have repaired or filled areas.
Application
Keim Soldalit should be applied as a two coat undiluted system. Can be applied by brush, roller, or air-less spray with a minimum period of 12 hours between coats. For highly absorbent/roughcast substrates, Keim Soldalit can be diluted with a maximum of 10% by weight of KEIM Soldalit Fixativ.
Application Conditions
Ambient and substrate temperature above 5°C and below 30°C. Do not apply in direct sunlight or onto sun-heated surfaces, nor if it is raining or if there is an immediate likelihood of rain.
Clean tools with water immediately after use.

Aaron on 2022-08-23 21:34:02 | Question:
I have stripped the old paint from a limestone building so it can breath as wrong paint used years ago and its suffocating! I am repairing all damage and deterioration then it is going to be painted. Which system should I use or could you recommend. Would it be Soldalit grob base coat Followed by soldalit No need for the ME as doesn't suffer from algae issues but is in a mild to heavy traffic area. Thanks for any assistance you may offer |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, please can you provide more information and pictures of the areas to be painted to [email protected] and we can assist with a specification.
Michael Jones on 2022-05-26 00:24:51 | Question:
Hi I'm after a highly water resistant and very breathable paint, for new sand and cement render, but to also paint over another section of previously painted sand and cement render (previous paint was sandtex which has faded after 15 years). I was going to buy Emperor Paint which is a silicate paint I think, but my wife doesn't like the colours, and I've heard Keim paint is similar. The safety data sheet for the Emperor paint shows it's made in Germany so it's possible Keim is made in the same place or they are very similar. Which one of the Keim paints would I buy? I want to avoid primers if possible. many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
For this application assuming the new sand/cement render and the previously painted areas are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend Keim Royalan. This is available in a range of colours in a matt finish.
Peter on 2021-09-19 13:29:14 | Question:
Hi, re Keim Soldalit, will it give me the same look as a lime wash does, ie flat. And when limewash exterior gets damp / wet with rain, temporarily darkens slightly in patches, does this do the same? Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This is a matt finish mineral paint based on a binding agent combination of silica sol and potassium silicate and will not act or look like a lime wash.
Robin Vidler on 2021-08-11 10:29:59 | Question:
Hi looking for something to cover the block ghosting I'm getting through my 7 year old K Rend exterior walls. I already have the KRend topcoat paint (in ivory) but wondering whether a couple of coats of your paint would provide a longer-lasting solution? So can i use this as a base coat for covering with KRend masonry paint afterwards or is it an alternative to that (or both at the same time?) Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thank you for the enquiry, we have contacted you directly for more information.
