Keim Concretal Base is a sol-silicate based, pigment-free glaze additive for KEIM Concretal-Lasur which helps achieve transparent, mineral matt finishes with an ideal application consistency, reduced settling, weather-resistant film thicknesses and a long open time.

Keim Concretal-Base is stirred into Keim Concretal-Lasur to achieve a glaze or colour wash finish.

Preparation & Application

The substrate must be dust-free and dry. Loose parts, dirt, oily substances, moss and algae and any unsound existing organically bound coats must be completely removed. In the case of new concrete structures, any shuttering oil residues must be removed with KEIM Concrete Cleaner (Betonschnellreiniger).

Clean, strong concrete requires no pretreatment. Before KEIM Concretal-Lasur with KEIM Concretal-Base is applied, highly absorbent substrates or surfaces exposed to severe weather may be provided with a water-repellent substrate treatment using KEIM Silangrund or KEIM Silan-100 (tested to ZTV-ING) to enhance the water protection.

The subsequent base coat with KEIM Concretal-Lasur is to be applied after approx. 4 hours in the case of KEIM Silangrund and after 4 to 24 hours in the case of KEIM Silan-100. Soft, porous concrete surfaces or existing mineral coats may be stabilised by pretreatment with KEIM Concretal-Fixativ.

Glaze Coating
For exterior application the requirement for weathering resistance generally entails to apply two coats by brush or roller. KEIM Concretal-Lasur may be mixed in any ratio with KEIM Concretal-Base depending on the desired translucency of the finish. This applies for the base coat and top coat. It is recommended to apply trial areas in order to determine the dilution ratio. Keep material well stirred before and during work. Neither water nor any other materials must be added.

Note: The system components Concretal-Lasur, Concretal-Base and Concretal-Fixativ may be mixed together in any desired ratio. KEIM Concretal-Base provides an attractive transparency together with ideal application consistency and film thickness. KEIM Concretal-Fixativ provides highly transparent colour wash finishes with true colour brilliance and a very low film thickness.

Application Conditions
From +5°C up to max. 30°C air and substrate temperature. Only apply onto dry substrates, outside only in dry weather conditions. Do not apply in strong sunlight, onto sun-heated substrates or in strong wind. Protect the surfaces also after application from direct sun, drying too fast, wind and rain.

Drying Times
At least 12 hours between glaze coats. Before performing the base coat wait approx. 4 hours after a pretreatment with KEIM Silangrund and approx. 4 - 24 hours after KEIM Silan-100.

Consumption
Depending on the mixing ratio: For one coat approx. 80-150 ml/m² of prepared mixture of Concretal-Lasur and Concretal-Base. The stated consumption figures are guide values depending on the desired glaze effect, application method and the substrate. Exact values can only be determined by on-site test areas.

Clean tools with water immediately after use.
