Question about the product
Andrew Clarke on 2024-02-09 08:41:13 | Question:
I have a cellar dating back to 1880, it's had all sorts of paint on the brick and the owner wants to return it to bare brick. Certainly it's had limewash/whitewash, emulsion, gloss and who knows what else! How will this product perform in regards of the limewash which seems to have soaked into the bricks. The room is a more or less constant 8-9⁰ and the bricks are a soft handmade. Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied to many surfaces including stone and brick to remove many types of water and oil-based coatings. We would recommend to test on a small area prior to full application.
Dave Torbuck on 2023-07-22 17:51:07 | Question:
Will this product remove old fire-retardent paint from a smooth surface slate fireplace |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product will remove many types of Water and Oil Based coatings from wood, brick, metal, stone and other surfaces. We'd recommend applying a small test area firstly to check for compatibility.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately the manufacturer does not list a coverage rate for this product as applications will vary dependant on the substrate and paint in question.
Keith harrison on 2023-03-03 10:04:08 | Question:
Will thermostrip remove paint f rom a concrete step Keith |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can remove many paints, but depending on the substrate’s porosity it may penetrate the concrete and or discolour it.
Lynda on 2022-05-27 14:08:14 | Question:
will thermostrip remove paint from an interior wall which has been painted but not smoothly. it has been randomly daubed with the paint making little ridges of paint over the wall. please |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Provding the ridges are caused by paint and not the substrate this product should help.
Clive on 2022-02-08 11:12:00 | Question:
Hi, I’m looking for a paint stripper to remove a paint from external brickwork - the paint looks like a white wash with a sealant film over it…Have tried NitroMors to no avail….thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
As we do not know what the white wash or sealant contains we cannot be sure if this product will remove it, but it will remove most water and oil based coatings.
Jenny James on 2021-01-19 09:41:35 | Question:
Would this be suitable for removing eggshell paint from interior Bath Stone mullions? Or would it penetrate the Bath stone and cause damage? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This can remove eggshell paint from stone, but depending on the substrate’s porosity it may penetrate the stone and or discolour it.
Perry on 2019-10-20 16:22:57 | Question:
Hi would this remove intumescent paint from an Rsj? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Thermoguard Thermostrip Pro can remove all forms of paint but a test patch is recommended to ascertain the length of time needed for the gel to reactivate the coating which would then allow it then to be scraped off or power washed away.
Robert on 2019-05-14 16:06:49 | Question:
Is this product suitable for removing Environgraf intumescent treatments from a solid wood door |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes it should be, as with all paint removal products you will need to carry out a trial on a small area first to ascertain suitability prior to full application.
heather on 2016-02-17 17:48:56 | Question:
I'm looking for advice on Thermostrip. Is it suitable for a wood surface that is quite uneven, i.e. exposed beams in a house? The back of the bottle says 'scrape off', but the wood has holes and a very bumpy texture, so scraping would only get off say 60% of anything gloopy stuck to it. Can I scrub with a brush, even if the non-flat bits haven't been scraped? Or is it the scraping action that removes the varnish / stain? Thanks. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Scraping is the best method of removal but for uneven areas we find a stainless steel scourer can be very effective. We would suggest applying Thermostrip PRO and removing as much as you can with a scraper and then applying a second application of Thermostrip PRO to tackle the uneven areas with the stainless steel scourer. Once all removed, wash down with Thermoguard Thermowash to complete.
