Coo-Var Vandalene Anti Climb Paint
Coo-Var Vandalene Anti Climb Paint is formulated to create a slippery, non-drying surface, effectively deterring unauthorised access. Ideal for use on surfaces that might be exploited for climbing, this paint is an essential security measure for properties prone to unauthorised entry. The product is easy to apply using a brush or mitt, and it adheres well to various surfaces including masonry, wood, and metal. Pre-treatment of the surface with the appropriate primer is recommended to ensure optimal adhesion and durability.
Application Guidelines
Before application, ensure that all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from contaminants such as grease or oil. For porous surfaces like masonry and wood, a Coo-Var Acrylic Primer Sealer should be used, while metal surfaces should be treated with Coo-Var All Metals Primer. The paint should be applied in a single thick coat to achieve the desired non-drying, slippery finish.
Usage Restrictions
This product is not suitable for use in areas where temperatures exceed 30°C. It should be applied at heights exceeding 1.8 metres to avoid accidental contact by legitimate users. Always ensure that notification signs are posted in areas where the paint is applied to alert individuals to the potential hazard.
Maintenance and Safety
Once applied, this anti-climb paint requires no additional maintenance. However, it is crucial to follow all safety instructions during application, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation during application, particularly in confined spaces.
Recommended Products
- Coo-Var Acrylic Primer Sealer: Ideal for sealing porous surfaces before applying anti-climb paint.

Questions
Question about the product
Elizabeth on 2021-10-24 10:08:29 | Question:
Hi Squirrels are eating my lead flashing around the chimney. If I coat the lead with the grey anti-climb paint would this prevent the squirrels chewing it? They could still reach the lead by standing on the tiles themselves, but would this be a deterrent to them by way of smell / taste / texture, do you know? Is the paint OK to use on lead flashing (won't damage it)? I assume the paint won't harm the squirrels (as the Q&A advises it doesn't harm cats)? Many thanks for your help |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product can be applied to lead, but this is not animal safe. As it is designed to never fully harden, if used you may have issues with the squirrels spreading it on to other areas.
V Taylor on 2021-09-13 09:46:06 | Question:
How long will the paint stay wet on a fence? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
When applied correctly this is designed as a non drying coating and will remain tacky.
Chris on 2018-12-04 13:48:38 | Question:
We are looking to purchase some anti climb paint for 80m of Palisade fencing how much do you advise we need if applying 10cm to pales tops. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This area would equate to 8m² in which case you'd need between 4-8kg of the Coo-Var Vandalene Anti Climb Paint for this.
Lorraine Wilson on 2018-07-02 19:22:12 | Question:
Hi there, Please can you tell me how to get this black anti climb paint out of carpets and a cat, and is it toxic to the cat Many thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Coo-Var Vandalene Anti Climb Paint will not harm the cat, it’s primarily petroleum jelly. The carpet can be dealt with by hot iron on brown paper to get most of the petroleum jelly out then washing up liquids and water should take out the pigments. The cat, wipe the area with soap and warm water until it’s clean.
gordon Little on 2018-06-14 12:49:42 | Question:

Stephen Newman on 2018-05-08 23:24:41 | Question:
Which Vandalene product is best for a (mostly red) brick wall? Part of the wall is at 45 degrees. Will Vanadalene stick to a brick wall with this angle? Thank you. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
There is only one Coo-Var Vandalene Anti Climb Paint but it is available in 4 colours and can be applied to vertical or horizontal surfaces so 45 degrees will be fine.
Richard on 2017-11-09 12:36:25 | Question:
