Murfill Renovation Paint is a high-performance, elastic decorative paint designed for the renovation and decoration of exterior walls and façades. With its lasting elasticity, excellent resistance to ageing and contamination, and a stylish matt finish, it is the perfect solution for both historical and modern buildings.
Application and Usage
Murfill Renovation Paint is suitable for application on various exterior surfaces, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish. It is particularly effective for:
- Renovating aged or deteriorating façades
- Protecting buildings from environmental damage
- Enhancing the appearance of historical and new structures
To ensure the best results, surfaces should be clean, sound, and dry before application. For best adhesion, use Fixonal or Pegafix primers on chalky paints or bare substrates. Smooth, non-porous surfaces should be primed beforehand.
Application Methods
Murfill Renovation Paint can be applied using various methods to suit different surface textures and project requirements:
- Brush: Use a synthetic brush for water-based products.
- Roller: Opt for a long nap roller (20-24 mm) for textured surfaces.
- Airless Spray: Dilute with 2-5% water as needed, using a nozzle size of 13-15 and a pressure of 200 bars.
Performance and Benefits
- Elasticity over 500%, maintaining flexibility in temperatures as low as -30°C.
- Water vapour permeable, allowing surfaces to breathe while protecting against moisture.
- Matt finish resists ageing and contamination, maintaining its aesthetic appeal.
- Quick drying time ensures efficient project completion.
Recommendations and Limitations
While Murfill Renovation Paint offers excellent durability and performance, it is essential to adhere to the following guidelines for optimal results:
- Do not apply below 5°C or above 80% relative humidity.
- Avoid applying on surfaces with more than 6% substrate humidity.
- Not suitable for air-atomised spray applications.
For cracks less than 0.5 mm, use Murfill Renovation Paint to fill them. For larger cracks, use Elastofill or Mur-Filler acrylic sealants.
Safety and Handling
Murfill Renovation Paint is safe for consumer use, but precautions should be taken during application:
- Wear protective gloves and avoid skin contact.
- Use appropriate respiratory protection in poorly ventilated areas.
- Clean equipment with water immediately after use.
Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for detailed information on safety measures and handling procedures.

Questions
Question about the product
Colin Foster on 2024-02-14 10:52:56 | Question:
Hi, can this product be applied over previously painted lime render ? Regards C Foster |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Lime render should be overpainted with a mineral based paint such as Graphenstone GCS Exterior. This is available in a range of colours.
kenneth newton on 2023-06-29 20:17:44 | Question:
what is the murfill renovation paint made of and where is it made |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This product is made in Belgium, the contents of the paint are listed in the Safety Data Sheet. This can be found in the data sheets tab on the product page.
Nicola buck on 2022-09-13 13:04:53 | Question:
Is this product suitable for a pebble dashed house. its an old 1910 house, although the pebble dash is in good condition, there are areas where there are more pebbles, then fewer pebbles so the standard masonry paint is patchy. I am not sure even with two coats standard paint would cover it. Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes, assuming the pebble dashed house is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be used. Brush or spray application would be easier for application, 2 to 3 coats maybe required.
David Goold on 2018-05-31 19:29:38 | Question:
I have a sandtex painted brick end of terrace cottage in Lymington. I want to cover the exterior surfaces ( approx 115 sq. m.) with a colored water prof breathable coating via paint brush. Are your products suitable for my application. What approach would you recommend? I can send you photos if needed. Thanks David |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Renovation Paint would be an excellent choice, for old paints in good condition, simply clean and dry and apply 2 coats of Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Renovation Paint. Based on 115m² you would require 46kg to apply the required 2 coats.
Y Sim on 2018-01-24 20:43:48 | Question:
We have an 8 foot retaining wall in our yard ,recently rough casted ,but we hate it !!.Would we have to have the wall re-rendered before paining, or could the rough cast be coated ? Also ,because the wall is retaining, it always looks & probably is a bit damp.Any advice would be welcome Thank you |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would instead recommend Rust-Oleum Mathys Durbocem for this application as it is a problem solving coating for damp walls. The paint is specially formulated to adhere and build a strong bond with the damp surface it is applied to, because it contains cement the moisture on the substrate actually helps the paint cure and become stronger coating. It also allows the surface to breathe so water pressure does not build up behind the coating which in turn prevents any flaking paint or diversion of damp to other areas.
Mogs on 2016-09-26 11:14:07 | Question:
Can this be used directly onto brick? thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No. Assuming the brick surface to be painted is 'open and porous' (not smooth like engineering brick) it would first need to be primed with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS, Mathys Fixonal or Mathys Pegafix before applying 2 coats of Murfill Renovation Paint in your chosen colour.
Ian Huws on 2016-03-04 11:59:11 | Question:
Can your product be used over K501 treated walls? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Sika Liquid Plastics K501 is based on waterbased silane-siloxane technology so Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Renovation Paint SHOULD be ok to apply over this type of waterproofer but we would always recommend a sample patch is carried out to ensure compatibility and adhesion. To test, paint about 1m² of Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Renovation Paint out onto the surface in an inconspicuous area, allow to fully dry for 3-5 days and then check for any signs of potential issues and test adhesion.
zana mathews on 2016-02-29 19:09:35 | Question:
Can you advise me of its weatherproofing qualities? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Renovation Paint will waterproof the wall but still allow the surface to breathe. It remains permanently elastic and extremely resistant to ageing, contamination and dirt pick up. It is resistant to UV, acid rain, heat, frost and pollution. Any cracks over 0.5mm wide should be filled with Rust-Oleum Mathys Elastofill and any active cracks should be bridged with Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Reinforcement Fleece.
